<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph"><strong>This post is all about the five mistakes I made as a new writer so you can learn from them and make your own writing journey a little easier.</strong></p>

<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/5-New-Writer-Mistakes-to-Avoid-When-Writing-Your-First-Book.png" alt="5 New Writer Mistakes to Avoid When Writing Your First Book" class="wp-image-6384"/></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Being a new writer can feel overwhelming. You want to write a book, but you&#8217;re not quite sure where to start or what you should be doing first.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There’s a lot to learn when you’re a new writer, and you will learn many of those lessons as you write. But there are also a few things that can make your writing journey much smoother if you know them before you start writing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you can avoid these five mistakes before writing your first book, your writing journey can be a lot smoother and a lot more fun. I made all five as a new writer, and in this post I’ll share what they are, what I learned from them, and how these lessons can make writing your first book a little easier. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here are five mistakes I made as a new writer and how you can avoid them. If you prefer the video version, check out the YouTube video below for the five new writer mistakes I recommend avoiding.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe title="5 Mistakes I Made as a New Writer (So You Don&amp;apos;t Have To)" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YTBxdic0a3I?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mistake #1: I Started Writing Before Learning the Basics</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I started writing, there was a story I really wanted to tell, and I was so excited about it that I just started writing. I didn’t stop to think that maybe it would be a good idea to learn a little from established writers and people who actually knew what they were doing. I just went straight into writing. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That meant I was mostly relying on what I instinctively knew about storytelling from the novels I had read and the movies I had watched. I hadn’t read any books about story structure, character arcs, or the craft of writing, with the exception of <a href="https://a.co/d/0aaExXBX" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/0aaExXBX" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stephen King’s <em>On Writing</em></a>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was only after I had already started writing my novel that I began buying books about the craft and learning as I went. And while that definitely helped, it would have been even more useful if I had read some of those books before I started writing. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Two books that were especially helpful for me as a new writer were <a href="https://a.co/d/06WT9xEN" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/06WT9xEN" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Save the Cat! Writes a Novel</em> by Jessica Brody</a> and <a href="https://a.co/d/0j8psLCW" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/0j8psLCW" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Creating Character Arcs</em> by K. M. Weiland</a>. Those are probably the minimum I would personally recommend reading before starting your first novel.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Learning some of these fundamentals can save you a lot of pain later during the revision stage. Revision becomes much more complicated when you’re not clear on the main plot points, when you don’t know your characters well enough, or when you’re not sure how they would react in certain situations. Understanding your characters’ wants, needs, and arcs can also make it much easier to figure out how the story should move forward. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So I highly recommend learning at least a little about the craft of writing before you start your first novel. But there’s another side to this: don’t postpone writing indefinitely because you feel like you still don’t know enough. You don’t need to read 50 writing books before you’re allowed to begin. At some point, you actually have to start writing.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/New-Writer-Advice-Stop-Preparing-and-Start-Writing.png" alt="New Writer Advice - Stop Preparing and Start Writing" class="wp-image-6386" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So my biggest lesson here was that knowing the fundamentals would have saved me a lot of time and made revision much easier. But don’t wait until you become an expert. Learn the basics, start writing, and then keep learning as you go.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mistake #2: I Started Without Really Knowing My Characters</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since I hadn’t planned any character arcs before I started writing, I began the novel with one character in mind as the main character. But soon enough, I realized that while that character was still one of the main characters, the bigger story actually belonged to someone else. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So I started making changes, and luckily, I was still fairly close to the beginning of the story. So luckily, it wouldn’t be that much to fix. Or at least, that’s what I thought…</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Later, when I was talking to my developmental editor about the characters, I realized that she was convinced the main character was still the one I had originally started writing about. That made it pretty clear that not having my character arcs and journeys figured out from the beginning had created confusion in the story itself about who the main character actually was. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If I had spent just a little more time thinking about my main characters, creating a clear character arc for each of them, and getting to know them better before I started writing, I think the whole story would have been much more clear from the beginning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So the lesson here is to start with your characters in mind. Get to know them really well. Think about where they are at the beginning, middle, and end of the story, and what they want versus what they actually need. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your characters will help drive the entire story. The better you know them, the easier it becomes to figure out what should happen next, how they would react in different situations, and where the plot should go. And ultimately, it will make your story clearer for both you and your readers.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Simple-Writing-Advice-for-New-Writers-683x1024.png" alt="Simple Writing Advice for New Writers" class="wp-image-6388" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Simple-Writing-Advice-for-New-Writers-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Simple-Writing-Advice-for-New-Writers-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Simple-Writing-Advice-for-New-Writers-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Simple-Writing-Advice-for-New-Writers-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Simple-Writing-Advice-for-New-Writers.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mistake #3: I Wrote Without Any Real Plan</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I had an idea of what I wanted my story to be and a general sense of how I wanted it to progress. But I didn’t know anything about story beats, outlining, or how to actually create a roadmap for a novel before I started writing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By the end, my story did have a logical progression, mostly based on what I instinctively knew about storytelling from all the books I had read. But the story would have been much stronger from the beginning if I had created an outline or at least decided on the main story beats.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That’s why, when I prepared to write my second novel, I did things differently. I first worked on my characters, and then I used <a href="https://a.co/d/06WT9xEN" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/06WT9xEN" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Save the Cat! Writes a Novel</em></a> to outline the main story beats before I started writing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And that went much better. It still wasn’t perfect because I was still learning how to write a novel, but having that outline made a huge difference. The first draft of my second novel was definitely an improvement compared to the first draft of my first novel. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Of course, I know outlines don’t work for everyone. If you’re a pantser and you love discovering your story as you write, I admire your ability to do that! But if your brain needs structure, like mine does, I highly recommend figuring out at least your main story beats before you start writing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So that was my lesson here: sometimes it’s better to spend a little more time creating a roadmap before you start writing than to reach the middle of your novel and realize you need to completely change direction. That would involve a lot more rewriting and a lot of time spent trying to fix things.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I believe this is especially true if you&#8217;re a new writer because, when you’re just starting out, you’re still learning how story structure and flow work. Having an outline can make the whole writing process feel much more manageable and help you keep your ideas organized as you write.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Avoid-Common-Mistakes-When-Writing-Your-First-Book.png" alt="How to Avoid Common Mistakes When Writing Your First Book" class="wp-image-6389" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mistake #4: I Tried to Edit Every Paragraph While Writing</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another thing I didn’t know about writing, and really wish I had known before I started, was that you don’t need to edit while you write.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At the time, I thought you were supposed to edit the text as you write it. I didn’t even consider that, before worrying about the wording, I might eventually need to make developmental changes that could completely change or even remove that paragraph. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then, as I started reading more about writing and watching videos from lots of AuthorTubers, I kept hearing about writing sprints and the idea that you don’t need to edit while you’re drafting. Instead, you can simply focus on writing for 20 or 25 minutes at a time, and writing goes so much faster because you no longer stop to edit each sentence. So I tried it for myself, and I saw firsthand how effective writing sprints can be.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST:</strong> <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/pomodoro-technique-for-writers-writing-sprints/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/pomodoro-technique-for-writers-writing-sprints/">The Pomodoro Technique for Writers: Write More in Less Time</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So my lesson here is very simple: write first and edit later. But of course, ideally have some kind of outline before you write. You can use writing sprints to help you stay focused during your writing sessions and get your first draft written fast. Once you have your first draft, you can start to revise and edit it.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Write-First-Edit-Later-A-First-Draft-Tip-for-Writers-683x1024.png" alt="Write First Edit Later - A First Draft Tip for Writers" class="wp-image-6387" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Write-First-Edit-Later-A-First-Draft-Tip-for-Writers-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Write-First-Edit-Later-A-First-Draft-Tip-for-Writers-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Write-First-Edit-Later-A-First-Draft-Tip-for-Writers-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Write-First-Edit-Later-A-First-Draft-Tip-for-Writers-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/Write-First-Edit-Later-A-First-Draft-Tip-for-Writers.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Mistake #5: I Thought Finishing the First Draft Meant the Hard Part Was Over</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you think about writing an 80,000-word novel, you know that’s going to be a lot of work. And it is! It took me a long time to write mine, especially since I was writing while working a full-time job. And it was my first novel, so it wasn&#8217;t easy.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But it was also so much fun. I loved writing it and spending time in the world of my novel. It gave my creativity a place to come alive, and writing also became a relaxing activity that helped me take my mind off the stress of my job.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Still, writing a full-length novel is not easy. It was a lot of hard work, but eventually, I did it. I finished my first novel. And when I was done, I remember thinking, <em>&#8220;Wow, I actually finished writing a novel! But at least the hard part is done&#8230;&#8221;</em></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I was sooo wrong. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing is the easy part. It&#8217;s the fun and exciting stage where you get to bring your imagination to life, make friends with your characters, and live in your story world for a while. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But then comes the editing. Oh boy, the editing&#8230;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now that’s the hard part. You have to go back through everything you’ve written with a critical eye. You actually have to be critical of your own creation. That’s your baby, and now you have to find and point out its flaws. You have to face your mistakes, have the courage to accept them, and be willing to change them. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And then you have to create a revision plan and revise your manuscript again and again until you finally reach a point where you wouldn’t be embarrassed to share it with a reader. So, in my opinion, that’s the hardest part. But I know this is very subjective, and other writers might actually love the revision stage. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So my lesson here is this: instead of being critical of yourself because your first draft is messy or needs a lot of work, be happy and proud that you wrote a whole book. That is already a huge accomplishment.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/First-Draft-Encouragement-for-New-Writers.png" alt="First Draft Encouragement for New Writers" class="wp-image-6385" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At least now you have something to improve on. And yes, revision can be a lot of work, but all that work is helping you turn your messy first draft into a book you can eventually feel proud to publish.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This post was all about the five mistakes you could make as a new writer and how to avoid them. If you enjoyed it, you might also enjoy this post:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-i-left-academia-to-build-a-creative-life/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-i-left-academia-to-build-a-creative-life/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Life Lessons I Learned When I Left My Job in Academia to Pursue a Creative Life</a></mark></p>

<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph"><strong>This post is all about romanticizing your writing day so you can make your writing time feel more special, inspiring, memorable, and fun.</strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-1-683x1024.png" alt="How to Romanticize Your Writing Day" class="wp-image-6363" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-1-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-1-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-1-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-1-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-1.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Do you want your writing days to feel more magical, exciting, and memorable? Then treating them as nothing more than a series of writing sprints you have to complete isn’t the answer.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this post, I’ll show you how to romanticize your writing day from start to end, so it feels more inspiring, meaningful, and fun. We’ll explore how to bring a little magic into every part of the day—from your pre-writing preparation and writing sessions to your breaks, the memories you collect, and the way you celebrate your wins.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So, let’s explore together six ways to make every writing day feel like a special occasion. If you prefer the video version, check out the YouTube video below for tips on how to romanticize your writing day.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Romanticize Your Writing Day: Make Your Creative Time Feel Magical" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3ClfOiV-Ypk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Create a special writing preparation ritual</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Your writing day starts before you actually start typing. And the way you start sets the tone for your entire day and writing session. So why not begin romanticizing your writing day before you even sit down at your desk?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You could start with a short meditation to help you enter the day with a calmer, more relaxed state of mind. Romanticizing your day is partly about slowing down and appreciating each moment instead of rushing through it, and meditation can help you settle into that peaceful state of mind. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another thing that you could add to your pre-writing ritual is journaling. You could write down a few things you’re grateful for, copy an inspiring quote, or add some positive affirmations and encouraging thoughts for the day. The idea here is to use journaling to put yourself in a more positive state of mind so you can start your writing day feeling confident and inspired.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So keep a &#8220;good vibes only&#8221; journal to help you record and remember all the great things you have in your life. Do not use it as a list of complaints or everything that is going wrong. Instead, let it become a collection of things you’re grateful for, encouraging messages to yourself, and plenty of happy thoughts.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">By appreciating all the good things in our lives, we start the day feeling happier, and creating becomes much easier when you feel good and you&#8217;re enjoying your day. And there&#8217;s plenty of research to back up the positive effects of gratitude. So try it and see how it improves your day.</p>

</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. Turn your writing day into a special occasion</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether you write every day, only on weekends, or just occasionally during your summer holiday, treat your writing time as something special. Don’t approach it like another job or task you need to complete. Instead, look forward to it with the same excitement you might feel before a date you can’t wait to go on. And act accordingly.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So, what could that look like? For starters, maybe you shouldn&#8217;t be working in your pajamas. If you want to romanticize the writing day, dress for the occasion. When you&#8217;re in creative mode, wear something nice. And while you&#8217;re at it, match that outfit with a nice piece of jewelry and a pretty hairstyle. You don&#8217;t need to buy a whole new wardrobe and accessories for this. Use what you have, just choose something that makes your day feel special.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But it&#8217;s not just the clothes and accessories that you could use to set the tone of your special writing day. How about having a special drink next to you that is reserved only for your writing session? Or keep a beautiful notebook on your desk that you only use for notes about your book. All these small details can help you romanticize your writing day by turning it into a special occasion.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-and-Slow-Down-683x1024.png" alt="How to Romanticize Your Writing Day and Slow Down" class="wp-image-6366" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-and-Slow-Down-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-and-Slow-Down-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-and-Slow-Down-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-and-Slow-Down-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Writing-Day-and-Slow-Down.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. Match your writing spot to the settings of your story</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now, let’s take the idea of making your writing day feel special one step further. You can do that by matching your work atmosphere to the setting of your story, or even to the particular scene you’re currently working on.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For example, if you’re writing a small-town romance, you could visit a cosy café and work on your novel there. We’ve already seen how <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/book-writing-in-a-cafe-productivity/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/book-writing-in-a-cafe-productivity/">cafés can increase your creativity and help you become more productive</a>. Now, they can also help you romanticize your writing day. So, all in all, coffee shops are great places for writers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But what if the romance novel you&#8217;re working on isn&#8217;t a small-town romance, but a billionaire romance? In that case, since you&#8217;re already nicely dressed, how about going to one of the nicest hotels in your town and writing from the hotel lobby, surrounding yourself with an atmosphere that matches the tone of your story?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But maybe you&#8217;re not writing romance at all. If you&#8217;re writing a fantasy novel, you could take your laptop or notebook somewhere in nature and write surrounded by trees, mountains, or a beautiful garden. If you&#8217;re writing an alien sci-fi story, going to outer space might be a bit difficult. Unless you&#8217;re an astronaut&#8230; But if you&#8217;re not, you could look for a futuristic café, a modern library, or another location that feels slightly otherworldly. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You get the idea: choose a setting that reflects the world of your novel. Immersing yourself in a similar atmosphere can help you feel closer to your story and characters while making your day feel much more magical.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Make-Your-Writing-Day-Memorable-683x1024.png" alt="How to Make Your Writing Day Memorable" class="wp-image-6367" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Make-Your-Writing-Day-Memorable-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Make-Your-Writing-Day-Memorable-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Make-Your-Writing-Day-Memorable-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Make-Your-Writing-Day-Memorable-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/How-to-Make-Your-Writing-Day-Memorable.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Romanticize your breaks</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When it comes to romanticizing your writing day, the actual writing is not the only thing you can make special. Your breaks are just as important as the writing. They can help you protect your creative flow, clear your mind, and romanticize the entire day.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So what can you do to romanticize your breaks? For starters, try not to jump straight onto social media the moment your break begins. Also, avoid immediately switching tabs to watch a movie. The idea is to not fill your brain with what everyone else is doing, but to be present in your own life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You could go for a short walk around your neighborhood, spend some time in nature, or visit your favorite café, unless you’re already working from there. You could also stop by a bookstore and browse a few books in your genre. Whenever I go to bookstores, I always get inspired and excited to return to my story.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST: </strong><a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-find-writing-inspiration-in-your-everyday-life/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-find-writing-inspiration-in-your-everyday-life/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How to Find Writing Inspiration in Your Everyday Life</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And don&#8217;t forget to take that beautiful notebook with you wherever you go. That&#8217;s part of romanticizing your life as a writer. So you want to remain in that romanticized state wherever you choose to go during your break.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Collect memories from the writing day</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Keeping memories of your writing days is a great way to romanticize them. Here are some suggestions of memories you could collect. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let&#8217;s start with your word count, one of the most important memories from your writing day. But as I mentioned when we talked about <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/romanticizing-writing-process/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/romanticizing-writing-process/">romanticizing the writing process</a>, you can even find ways to make tracking your word count feel more special. If you don&#8217;t already have a special notebook or file for this, I created a free printable tracker that you can download using the form below. Use this file to make recording your word count feel more special.</p>

<div class="wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container aligncenter hwh-optin gb-block-container" style="background-color:#fff6f2"><div class="gb-container-inside"><div class="gb-container-content" style="max-width:1600px">
<div class="wp-block-columns are-vertically-aligned-center hwh-optin-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex">
<div class="wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow" style="background-color:#fff6f2;flex-basis:33.33%"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="800" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticized-Word-Count-Tracker-Printable-Letter-Size.png" alt="Printable Word Count Tracker" class="wp-image-6331"/></figure>
</div></div>

<div class="wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow" style="background-color:#fff6f2;flex-basis:66.66%"><div class="convertkit-form wp-block-convertkit-form" style=""><script async data-uid="529f220697" src="https://happywriterhub.kit.com/529f220697/index.js" data-jetpack-boost="ignore" data-no-defer="1" data-no-optimize="1" nowprocket></script></div>
</div>
</div>
</div></div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But you could also record your word count in your daily journal, where you keep track of all the great things from that day. What else could you keep in this journal? You could add details about your favorite scene you wrote that day, or a sentence you&#8217;re especially proud of, or something exciting that happened to one of your characters.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You could even take photos throughout the day, photos of your screen, your desk, or something interesting you saw during one of your breaks. Then, you can print them and add them to your journal. That way, you&#8217;ll have lots of fun memories from your writing day, and looking back on them will always put you in a positive state of mind.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">6. End the day by celebrating your wins</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Finally, since we started romanticizing the writing day from the very beginning, let’s end it in the same spirit. Once you&#8217;re done writing and done with your journaling, take a moment to celebrate your wins from the day. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And if you don’t think you have any wins, open your journal again. Read what you wrote, and I’m sure you’ll find plenty of moments that are worth celebrating. Even if your word count was zero that day, you still showed up and spent time thinking about your story. That&#8217;s taking your story further than it was yesterday. So that&#8217;s definitely worth celebrating.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So celebrate these wins and reward yourself for them. You could prepare a nice, healthy meal for yourself, take a relaxing bubble bath, go out for dinner and a walk, or just celebrate with friends and family. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And there you have it, we&#8217;ve romanticized the writing day from start to finish. Doesn’t a day like this feel much more exciting than thinking of it as nothing more than a series of writing sprints you have to complete?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This post was all about romanticizing your writing day. If you enjoyed it, you might also enjoy this post:</p>

<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph"><strong>This post is all about romanticizing the writing process so you can make writing your novel feel more inspiring, enjoyable, immersive, and memorable.</strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-the-Writing-Process.png" alt="How to Romanticize the Writing Process" class="wp-image-6324"/></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing a book is not an easy process. It takes time, dedication, and many hours spent returning to your manuscript. But there are a few simple steps you can take to make your writing journey feel much more magical, inspiring, and fun. And one of the best ways to do that is by romanticizing the writing process.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this post, I’ll share four simple tips you can use to make your writing sessions feel more special, immerse yourself more deeply in your story, and enjoy the time you spend bringing your book to life. If you prefer the video version, check out the YouTube video below for tips on how to romanticize the writing process.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Romanticizing the Writing Process - 4 Ways to Make Writing More Magical" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vSj9chjz3PI?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Romanticize the writing process by turning it into a special ritual</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Having your own special ritual for your writing session, or even for the moments before it begins, is a great way to romanticize the writing process. Make this ritual as much fun as possible so it feels like you&#8217;re stepping into a charming writing atmosphere, an atmosphere that enhances your identity as a writer, just like the writers you see portrayed in movies.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So what could your writing ritual include? Here are a few suggestions. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You could have a coffee or tea by your side in a special cup that&#8217;s dedicated only to your writing session drink. I think that beautiful china teacups create a feeling of being immersed in a more romantic and cosy atmosphere.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Lighting can also play a big part in romanticizing your writing ritual. Doesn’t it feel much cozier and more magical to write in a room lit by candles or fairy lights than under a bright white light? </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then there&#8217;s the music and sounds you listen to only during your writing sessions. It could be a special playlist, or a sound ambiance that helps you feel closer to your manuscript. I usually listen to the <a href="https://harry-potter-sounds.ambient-mixer.com/ravenclaw-common-room" data-type="link" data-id="https://harry-potter-sounds.ambient-mixer.com/ravenclaw-common-room" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><em>Ravenclaw Common Room</em> sound atmosphere</a> from <a href="https://www.ambient-mixer.com/" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.ambient-mixer.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">ambient-mixer.com</a>. Whenever I hear that, I immediately feel like it&#8217;s time to write.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whatever ritual you choose, make sure it creates the writing atmosphere that feels the most magical and most special to you. That way, your writing sessions will become something you eagerly look forward to.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Create an atmosphere that matches your story</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This point is connected to the previous one, but it goes a little deeper by creating a stronger connection between your surrounding atmosphere and the type of story you’re writing. You can use sound, visual elements, as well as scents to bring your story&#8217;s atmosphere into your writing space.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The sound atmosphere</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the previous point, we talked about using a sound atmosphere that romanticizes the writing process. But you can take this idea even further by choosing sounds that are connected to your story.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Create a playlist that matches the genre you&#8217;re writing in, or maybe one that&#8217;s inspired by your main character. If you&#8217;re writing a fantasy story, maybe you can listen to a <em>Lord or the Rings</em> playlist. Or if you think of your main characters, which movie characters do they remind you of? Listen to the soundtrack from that movie to feel even more inspired when you write your character&#8217;s story. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But sound isn’t the only part of your surroundings that you can connect to your manuscript.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The visual atmosphere</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can surround yourself with objects and images that are closely connected to the story you’re writing. Maybe there are certain objects that have special meaning to one of your characters. You could display a printed image that represents an important setting from your novel. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I like to do is think about which of my favorite characters from movies and TV shows has a personality that&#8217;s most similar to that of my main character. I then create my character&#8217;s full bio in <a href="https://campfirewriting.com/write" data-type="link" data-id="https://campfirewriting.com/write" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Campfire</a> and add a picture of the actor or actress who played that character. And when I write, I often like to look at their pictures and think about how my own characters might react in the scene I&#8217;m writing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But you can also print their pictures and keep them close by when you write about them. When you surround yourself with all these visual reminders of your story, it almost feels like you are living inside your story while you&#8217;re writing it.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Creative-Writing-Tips-to-Enjoy-Your-Writing-Journey-More.png" alt="Creative Writing Tips to Enjoy Your Writing Journey More" class="wp-image-6326" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The scent atmosphere</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also romanticize the writing process by using scents that help you immerse yourself even more deeply in the atmosphere of your book. Whether you use scented candles, an essential oil diffuser, or incense sticks, each option can deepen the atmosphere of your story by bringing in scents you associate with its different settings.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Why not try to match the scent to the scene you&#8217;re currently writing? Are you working on a scene set inside a small-town bakery, where your protagonist has just baked a batch of her special pastries? Then you can use a cinnamon stick, a pumpkin banana scone, or even a pumpkin maple crème caramel <a href="https://www.amazon.com/stores/YankeeCandle/page/85C5AA5C-DBEE-49BE-8769-F3BA527A0204?lp_asin=B0F3DRTCB2&amp;ref_=cm_sw_r_ud_ast_store_XDPSZ4W5RMT96JSJ6G9Y&amp;store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandlogo_sto" data-type="link" data-id="https://www.amazon.com/stores/YankeeCandle/page/85C5AA5C-DBEE-49BE-8769-F3BA527A0204?lp_asin=B0F3DRTCB2&amp;ref_=cm_sw_r_ud_ast_store_XDPSZ4W5RMT96JSJ6G9Y&amp;store_ref=bl_ast_dp_brandlogo_sto" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Yankee candle</a>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Are you writing a scene that takes place in a forest? Then a canyon pine candle or a eucalyptus or pine-scented essential oil could work wonders in helping you immerse yourself in that setting.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Or why not just go and write that scene in a place that closely resembles the location of your scene? A cosy café with its own bakery can provide the exact scents and sounds you were trying to recreate with candles. You could also take your laptop to a forest and write from a bench while surrounded by the trees, sounds, and fresh air of the setting itself. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST: </strong><a href="https://happywriterhub.com/book-writing-in-a-cafe-productivity/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/book-writing-in-a-cafe-productivity/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How Writing in a Café Increases Writing Productivity and Creativity</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Use whatever is most accessible, enjoyable, and inspiring to you. The goal is to help you feel immersed in your story from the moment you sit down to write.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Give every stage of the writing process its own charm</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When we think about romanticizing the writing process, we often focus only on writing the first draft. But you can totally romanticize all aspects of writing. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Let&#8217;s start with outlining. How about viewing the outlining stage as building a roadmap for the adventure your characters are about to embark on? But of course, if you&#8217;re a pantser, feel free to skip this stage and discover the road as you go.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then comes the first draft, which is the biggest adventure not only for your characters but also for you. They’re not the only ones who get to live that adventure. You’re right there with them all the way to the end.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So instead of viewing your first draft only through the word-count targets you need to reach that day, think of it as time spent in adventure land. How cool is it that, as writers, we get the chance to experience so many adventures? That&#8217;s such an exciting life! Enjoy it! And be happy that once your story is ready, your readers will also get the chance to enjoy that adventure. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then there’s revising your manuscript. While this is definitely my least favorite part of writing, trying to romanticize it makes the revision stage feel a little easier. Thinking of revision as the stage where I make the adventure clearer, something that will help my readers become even more immersed in my story world and deepen their connection with my characters makes me dread the revision process a little less.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So try changing the way you view the revision process. That small mindset shift might help you feel more excited about revising your manuscript, too.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/4-Ways-to-Make-the-Writing-Process-More-Magical.png" alt="4 Ways to Make the Writing Process More Magical" class="wp-image-6325" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Turn your writing progress into lasting memories</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Finally, another way to romanticize the writing process is by appreciating it. Start by acknowledging your progress. But I&#8217;m not talking here about simply writing down your word count for each sprint or writing session. I’m talking about recording your progress in a way that feels visually appealing and special.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You could use a pretty notebook with beautifully decorated pages where you track your progress and reward yourself with pretty stickers whenever you reach a new milestone. To help you with this, I created a free word count tracker printable that you can use to romanticize your writing process and make your writing sprints feel even more special. You can download the PDF using the link in the form below.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you do keep a notebook to track your progress, I also suggest adding there snippets of your writing. You could add there a paragraph you’re especially proud of, a funny or an emotional moment from your writing that day, something you enjoyed about the adventure, or a funny or motivational line one of your characters said.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All these little details can help you romanticize the writing process, enjoy it more, and create beautiful memories of your writing journey along the way.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Are you fully appreciating how magical your writer&#8217;s life is? Do you feel like there&#8217;s something missing? Like you should be enjoying your creative journey a lot more than you currently are? If you feel like you lost some of your enthusiasm for writing, I’m going to show you how to romanticize your life as a writer to bring excitement and inspiration back into your creative journey.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Being a writer isn’t only about writing one word after another. It’s also about embracing your identity as a writer, surrounding yourself with things that spark your creativity, and turning ordinary moments into little creative adventures.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this post, I’ll share five tips on how to romanticize your life as a writer. And in future posts, we’ll explore even more ways to romanticize different parts of your writing journey. If you prefer the video version, check out the YouTube video below for tips on how to romanticize your life as a writer.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. How to romanticize your life by seeing yourself as a writer right now</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;ve said this before, and I&#8217;ll say it again: if you&#8217;re writing, you&#8217;re a writer. So the first step to romanticize your life as a writer is to start with your identity. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even if you only start writing your book now, don&#8217;t wait until it&#8217;s published to see yourself as a writer. You&#8217;re writing, which means you&#8217;re already a writer`. Start embracing that identity as part of who you are. Your writer&#8217;s life doesn&#8217;t begin sometime in the future, when your book is finally published. You&#8217;re living it right now! So have fun with it! </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Embrace all aspects of being a writer. Start by protecting your writing time to ensure you have time for the creative projects that matter to you. Another thing you can do is carry a notebook or a few index cards wherever you go so you can write down new ideas as soon as they come to you.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Of course, you could always type them into your phone. But since we&#8217;re talking here about how to romanticize your life as a writer, doesn&#8217;t it feel much more magical to write them down by hand in a beautiful notebook or some pretty, colorful index cards? </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bring as many elements of the writer’s life as you can into your everyday life to strengthen that writer identity. Appreciate your ideas, trust your creativity, and believe in yourself. Be happy that you get to live a life filled with imagination and creativity. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writers get to step into the magical worlds inside their minds and bring them to life through words. So rejoice in the fact that you can imagine, create, and see magic where others might only see the ordinary.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Magic-of-Being-a-Writer-683x1024.png" alt="The Magic of Being a Writer" class="wp-image-6286" style="aspect-ratio:0.6669923465233676;width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Magic-of-Being-a-Writer-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Magic-of-Being-a-Writer-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Magic-of-Being-a-Writer-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Magic-of-Being-a-Writer-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/The-Magic-of-Being-a-Writer.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. Surround yourself with things that spark your creativity</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I briefly touched on this in the previous point when I mentioned using a beautiful notebook or pretty index cards to capture your ideas. But there are so many other elements you can add to your environment to romanticize your life as a writer.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Add your favorite books to your bookshelf, and while you’re at it, include a few writing craft books too. On the one hand, it’s helpful to have them nearby whenever you need support with your writing. On the other hand, they serve as a lovely reminder that you are a writer. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can also light a candle during your writing sessions to create a more romantic atmosphere. Personally, I prefer fairy lights because, for me, they create the most magical and inviting writing environment. But you should choose whatever best matches your own idea of romanticizing your writing sessions. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also love collecting quotes about writing, motivation, and inspiration. They help boost my confidence and encourage me to keep going, even when things get difficult. And when you find a quote that truly resonates with you, why not print it, frame it, and place it somewhere you can see every day? </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I’ve created a few free printables featuring some of my own encouraging quotes for writers. You can download them using the form below. I hope they help you stay motivated and inspired throughout your writing journey.</p>

<div class="wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container aligncenter hwh-optin gb-block-container" style="background-color:#fff6f2"><div class="gb-container-inside"><div class="gb-container-content" style="max-width:1600px">

</div></div>

<div class="wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow" style="background-color:#fff6f2;flex-basis:66.66%"><div class="convertkit-form wp-block-convertkit-form" style=""><script async data-uid="de157d00c5" src="https://happywriterhub.kit.com/de157d00c5/index.js" data-jetpack-boost="ignore" data-no-defer="1" data-no-optimize="1" nowprocket></script></div>
</div>
</div>
</div></div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Being surrounded by all these things that represent the writer’s life can help strengthen your identity as a writer. It can also make your writing sessions feel more inviting, so you can show up with the right mindset and create with more joy.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticizing-Your-Writers-Life-Starts-Now-683x1024.png" alt="Romanticizing Your Writer's Life Starts Now" class="wp-image-6298" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticizing-Your-Writers-Life-Starts-Now-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticizing-Your-Writers-Life-Starts-Now-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticizing-Your-Writers-Life-Starts-Now-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticizing-Your-Writers-Life-Starts-Now-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Romanticizing-Your-Writers-Life-Starts-Now.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. Turn ordinary outings into creative adventures</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A great way to romanticize your life as a writer is to notice all the writing inspiration floating all around you. Wherever you go, pay attention to what you see and take in even the smallest details. You never know which one might spark a new creative idea. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you’re always rushing from one place to another or getting lost in your own thoughts, it’s easy to miss how fascinating the world around you truly is. So, one of the best things you can do, not only to romanticize your life but also to nurture your creativity, is to slow down and become more present.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once you do that, the whole world around you can become a source of inspiration for your writing. Whether you spend a few hours at your favorite café or local library, hike up a mountain, visit the beach, or simply walk through your neighborhood, all of these places can offer something to inspire you.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST:</strong> <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-find-writing-inspiration-in-your-everyday-life/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-find-writing-inspiration-in-your-everyday-life/">How to Get Writing Inspiration from Everyday Life</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can romanticize your life as a writer by looking for the beauty in every setting, experience, and person you encounter along the way.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Paying attention to the beauty around you can also help you develop a more positive mindset and become a happier writer. Then, when you sit down to write, your ideas may flow more easily because you’ve filled your creative mind with so much inspiration.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Life-as-a-Writer-683x1024.png" alt="How to Romanticize Your Life as a Writer" class="wp-image-6287" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Life-as-a-Writer-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Life-as-a-Writer-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Life-as-a-Writer-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Life-as-a-Writer-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/How-to-Romanticize-Your-Life-as-a-Writer.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. How to romanticize your life with meaningful writing symbols</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Having little symbols in your everyday life that remind you of your writing journey is a great way to romanticize your life as a writer.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We already touched on some of these symbols in the second point, when we talked about having a special notebook for your ideas or using candles and fairy lights during your writing sessions. But the writing symbols I’m talking about here don’t necessarily have to be connected to the time you spend writing. They can simply be little reminders throughout the day that you are a writer.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It could be a piece of jewelry that represents writing. Maybe a <a href="https://a.co/d/03VWA6EV" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/02f3adSh" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">pendant shaped like a book</a>, some <a href="https://a.co/d/06siZv9Q" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/06siZv9Q" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">earrings shaped like a stack of books</a>, <a href="https://a.co/d/07beBC80" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/07beBC80" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a typewriter</a>, <a href="https://a.co/d/0gGk6duO" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/0gGk6duO" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a quill</a>, or some other <a href="https://a.co/d/0b91iQ6o" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/0b91iQ6o" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">pretty book-related jewelry</a>. It could also be a <a href="https://a.co/d/04rhqEfZ" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/04rhqEfZ" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">talisman engraved with a writing quote</a>. I also saw in a shop <a href="https://a.co/d/07kF4m8w" data-type="link" data-id="https://a.co/d/07kF4m8w" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">a tiny decorative typewriter</a> that you could place on your bookshelf or desk as a constant reminder that you’re a writer.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whatever symbols you choose to bring into your life as a writer, they don’t need to be expensive. They simply need to feel meaningful to you and reflect your own idea of what being a writer represents.`</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Over time, these little symbols can become part of your writing journey. They may even remind you of different stages in your creative life, the stories you were working on, and the person you were becoming along the way.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Celebrate-the-Creative-Life-of-a-Writer.png" alt="Celebrate the Creative Life of a Writer" class="wp-image-6289" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Immortalize the story of your own writing journey</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since we ended the previous point by talking about symbols that can remind you of different stages in your writing life, let’s expand on that idea. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you want to romanticize your life as a writer, make sure to keep reminders of the meaningful moments in your writing life. Keep a journal filled with memories of your writer&#8217;s life. And I&#8217;m not talking here just about major writing achievements, like finishing your book. Sure, that&#8217;s an amazing accomplishment, and you should absolutely celebrate and document it. But a writer’s life includes so many meaningful moments beyond the day you finally type “The End.” </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Think about the other writers you meet along the way, the writing friends who support you through difficult moments and celebrate your achievements with you. Keep reminders of all those memories. You could even take photos and add them to your journal so you can look back on those special moments later.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The same goes for writing retreats, writing conferences, workshops, bookstore visits, and other creative adventures. These are all exciting chapters in your life as a writer, and they are worth remembering.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But the smaller moments matter just as much. Think about the day you finished writing your first chapter or reached your first 1,000-word day. Maybe you wrote 2,000 words, 5,000 words, or even 10,000 words in a single productive day. Every milestone is worth recording so you can look back later and remember how much you accomplished along the way. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And what about the writing itself? Think about a character you’re truly excited about and write down how you felt when you first created them. Record the moment you came up with a fun adventure for your characters, or you came up with a surprising plot twist, or you finally solved a plot issue that kept you awake at night.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Keep a record of all these meaningful moments, creative discoveries, and writing ideas to preserve your own story as a writer. And who knows? Maybe one day, the story of your writing journey will become a book of its own.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These are some of my favorite ideas for romanticizing your life as a writer. How about you? Do you have any other ways to romanticize your life as a writer? Let me know in the comments.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">

<p class="has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph"><strong>This post is all about the biggest myths about writers so you can stop believing the ones that might be holding you back and enjoy your writing journey with more confidence and joy. </strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8-Common-Myths-About-Writers-You-Need-to-Stop-Believing-683x1024.png" alt="8 Common Myths About Writers You Need to Stop Believing" class="wp-image-6231" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8-Common-Myths-About-Writers-You-Need-to-Stop-Believing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8-Common-Myths-About-Writers-You-Need-to-Stop-Believing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8-Common-Myths-About-Writers-You-Need-to-Stop-Believing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8-Common-Myths-About-Writers-You-Need-to-Stop-Believing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/8-Common-Myths-About-Writers-You-Need-to-Stop-Believing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Real writers are naturally talented. You need to come up with completely original ideas, otherwise you’re not a real writer. You have to suffer in order to create art. These are just some of the myths about writers floating around out there, and they might be stopping you from reaching your full creative potential.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even believing these myths about writers a little bit can fill your writing journey with guilt, self-doubt, pressure, and stress, making writing feel far more difficult than it needs to be. But don’t worry, dear happy writer! Today, we’re going to bust these myths one by one so you can approach writing with more joy, confidence, excitement, and freedom.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some of these myths are absolutely ridiculous. The last one is the one I find most ridiculous of all.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So let’s go through them together and see them for what they really are: myths. And as we go through them, let me know in the comments which myth you struggle with the most, or which one you find the funniest, most frustrating, or most annoying.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you prefer the video version, check out the YouTube video below for the most common myths about writers.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Are These Myths About Writers Holding Back Your Creativity?" width="500" height="281" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YNHoyfFU0JU?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #1: You&#8217;re only a writer if you&#8217;re published</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">No! Absolutely not! </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Are you writing? Then you&#8217;re a writer! It&#8217;s as simple as that!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s really not that much more to say about this myth. If you&#8217;re writing, you&#8217;re a writer, even if you haven&#8217;t published anything yet. And don&#8217;t let anyone out there make you doubt that.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #2: Real writers are naturally talented</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Are some writers naturally more talented than others? Sure. But every writer can grow and improve over time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing is a skill that you develop over time through steady practice and learning. You do not have to be born a brilliant, incredibly talented writer. You can become one in time.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Be-Naturally-Talented-to-Be-a-Great-Writer-683x1024.png" alt="You Don't Have to Be Naturally Talented to Be a Great Writer" class="wp-image-6226" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Be-Naturally-Talented-to-Be-a-Great-Writer-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Be-Naturally-Talented-to-Be-a-Great-Writer-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Be-Naturally-Talented-to-Be-a-Great-Writer-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Be-Naturally-Talented-to-Be-a-Great-Writer-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Be-Naturally-Talented-to-Be-a-Great-Writer.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You just have to put in the work, to study the craft of writing, to read a lot, and most importantly, to keep writing. Keep writing, keep learning, and keep improving with every new draft and every new book you write. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That&#8217;s how you grow your talent, one written word after another. And the more you write, the more your writing improves, the more you develop your confidence as a writer, and the better your books will turn out.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #3: Successful writers write effortlessly</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You might look at all those successful writers out there and think that writing must come so easily to them if they ended up becoming so successful. But you don&#8217;t become a successful writer overnight. You work for it. Every successful writer had to work very hard to get to where they are now. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Successful-Writers-Arent-Made-Overnight-683x1024.png" alt="Successful Writers Aren't Made Overnight" class="wp-image-6225" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Successful-Writers-Arent-Made-Overnight-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Successful-Writers-Arent-Made-Overnight-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Successful-Writers-Arent-Made-Overnight-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Successful-Writers-Arent-Made-Overnight-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Successful-Writers-Arent-Made-Overnight.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Do you think they write one first draft and it magically comes out perfect and ready for publication? No! They have to rewrite and revise many drafts, just like you and me. Okay… maybe not quite as much as me, as a newbie writer… but still!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Hard work, struggle, and even self-doubt&#8230; they&#8217;re all part of the writing process. Even for successful authors. But the good news is&#8230; they did it. So we can do it, too. We can learn from them, follow in their footsteps, and model the habits and strategies that helped them succeed. They&#8217;re showing us the roadmap, so let&#8217;s use it to make our own writing journey easier.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST</strong>: <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/inspiration-writing-habits-of-famous-authors/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Inspiration From the Writing Habits of Famous Authors</a></mark></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #4: You need to be original all the time</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A lot of new writers think that their ideas have to be completely original. They feel like they need to create something completely new, otherwise they are not truly creative. But with millions of books already out there, it&#8217;s really hard to come up with something completely new. Everything has already been done. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every new book that comes out now is built on existing ideas. That&#8217;s actually why we can categorize them into certain genres, sub-genres, and tropes. But you know what hasn&#8217;t been done before? Your own version of the story.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The world is waiting for your story, written using your imagination, your experiences, your unique voice, and your own spin on those ideas and tropes. That&#8217;s what makes your story original. You&#8217;re writing it from your own perspective, so it will be different from anything else that&#8217;s out there, even if it builds on similar ideas. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Your-Unique-Voice-Is-What-Makes-Your-Story-Original-683x1024.png" alt="Your Unique Voice Is What Makes Your Story Original" class="wp-image-6228" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Your-Unique-Voice-Is-What-Makes-Your-Story-Original-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Your-Unique-Voice-Is-What-Makes-Your-Story-Original-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Your-Unique-Voice-Is-What-Makes-Your-Story-Original-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Your-Unique-Voice-Is-What-Makes-Your-Story-Original-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Your-Unique-Voice-Is-What-Makes-Your-Story-Original.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So don&#8217;t worry so much about being completely original. And if you still worry, I highly recommend reading &#8220;Steal Like an Artist&#8221; by Austin Kleon. It really helps take away the fear of not creating something “completely original.”</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #5: Writers must be disciplined all the time</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you can do it, that&#8217;s great. It certainly helps. Discipline is great for keeping you on track with your writing. It helps you get to the finish line faster and helps you stay better organized. So yes, there are lots of advantages to staying disciplined.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But life happens.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Various events, work and family commitments, and unexpected health issues can all interfere with your strict discipline. And when that happens, it&#8217;s important not to get discouraged and give up completely and say to yourself, “Well, I’m just not a disciplined person, so there’s no point in trying anymore.” </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s best to stay flexible and work around the different challenges that come up. If something happens and you can&#8217;t write today, or even for a week, it&#8217;s okay. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just come back to writing when the crisis is over. It&#8217;s far better to work with the time and energy you currently have and write when you can, rather than waiting for some perfect future moment when you’ll finally be able to follow a strict routine again.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #6: You need a perfect routine to be productive</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This myth is closely connected to the previous one. We sometimes think we need an ideal writing routine in order to write and finish the book. But again, maybe your life at this moment isn&#8217;t organized in a way that allows you to follow a certain writing routine every single day. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So, just like with discipline, don&#8217;t postpone writing until you can keep a perfect writing routine every day.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Instead of stressing because you can’t have that ideal one-hour writing session today, with the candles glowing on your desk, the shooting music in the background, and the perfect creative flow state, and then ending up not writing anything at all, you&#8217;ll actually advance your book much faster if you just write 10 minutes on your phone. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even if all you do is brainstorm ideas, that still counts as progress.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="1500" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Myths-About-Writers-You-Dont-Need-the-Perfect-Writing-Routine.png" alt="Myths About Writers - You Don't Need the Perfect Writing Routine" class="wp-image-6230" style="width:320px;height:auto"/></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #7: Writers are introverts</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While some writers are introverts, this is definitely not the case for every writer out there. Just like in any other profession, you can find introverted writers, extroverted writers, and writers who fall anywhere between the two extremes. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some writers get their energy from talking to people, while others are completely depleted of energy when interacting with people and prefer the quietest place they can find to write. Wherever you find yourself on the introvert-extrovert scale, it&#8217;s fine. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most important thing is that you understand what gives you energy and what drains it so you are able to write in the environment that works best for you.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writer Myth #8: You need to suffer to create art</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I really, really don&#8217;t like this one. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Artists are tormented souls, and they must suffer in order to create meaningful art. I used to hear this everywhere, in movies, in conversations about artists, and all over popular culture. But it is so far from reality.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Creativity doesn&#8217;t come from suffering. And also, you don&#8217;t suffer because you&#8217;re creative. In real life, it&#8217;s often the complete opposite. It&#8217;s in moments of joy, excitement, wonder, and peacefulness that we find our biggest inspiration. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Suffer-to-Be-Creative-683x1024.png" alt="You Don't Have to Suffer to Be Creative" class="wp-image-6227" style="width:320px;height:auto" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Suffer-to-Be-Creative-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Suffer-to-Be-Creative-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Suffer-to-Be-Creative-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Suffer-to-Be-Creative-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/You-Dont-Have-to-Suffer-to-Be-Creative.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I got the inspiration for my first book while I was traveling around Rapa Nui, a place I had dreamt of visiting since I was a child. Being there, exploring the island, seeing the moai, and learning about the Rapa Nui history was a dream come true. And it was all that excitement and the wonders of that island that inspired my story. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As for the writing process itself, I don&#8217;t know about you, but I write a lot more when I&#8217;m in a good mood. So no, suffering definitely does not help me create art. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing always feels easier when I&#8217;m happy, relaxed, and having fun. That&#8217;s why my channel is all about happy writers and cheering you on throughout your writing journey so you can make your writing dreams come true.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One decision could teach you confidence, patience, resilience, and life lessons you&#8217;ll carry with you for the rest of your life. But most people never make it because they&#8217;re afraid nobody will care about what they have to say. If you&#8217;ve ever thought about writing a book, this post might completely change the way you look at it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing a book isn&#8217;t just about becoming an author. It&#8217;s about challenging yourself, discovering who you are, developing skills that will help you throughout life, and pursuing a dream instead of wondering &#8220;what if?&#8221; years from now. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even if you never publish your book, you still win. The simple act of writing a book can make you more confident, more resilient, and more fulfilled. In this post, I&#8217;m sharing 7 reasons why you should write a book, even if no one reads it, and why writing a book may be one of the most rewarding things you&#8217;ll ever do.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Writing a Book Proves You Can Do Difficult Things</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So many people say they would like to write a book. But very few actually do it. Writing an entire book is definitely not an easy task. It requires a lot of patience, hard work, and perseverance. But if you decide to do it, you&#8217;ll be really glad you did it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once you&#8217;re done, not only will you have written an entire book, but you will also have accomplished something so few people ever do. And that&#8217;s something worth celebrating.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But it&#8217;s not just the finished book that you should be proud of. You should also be proud of the person you became along the way. You achieved something really difficult, and that&#8217;s important because many people give up when things get tough. But you didn&#8217;t.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You kept going even in those moments when you felt stuck, frustrated, and tempted to quit. You pushed forward even when finishing your book seemed impossible. But you did it! </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And now you know that you can do difficult things. And this is such a powerful lesson that you can carry with you into all other areas of your life.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Write-a-Book-Just-for-You-683x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6171" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Write-a-Book-Just-for-You-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Write-a-Book-Just-for-You-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Write-a-Book-Just-for-You-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Write-a-Book-Just-for-You-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Write-a-Book-Just-for-You.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. It Helps You Understand Yourself Better</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whether you decide to write a novel or a non-fiction book, writing it will sometimes feel like a journey of self-discovery. That&#8217;s because when we write, we often pour our experiences, fears, lessons, and thoughts into our books. Maybe even more so in non-fiction, but quite a lot in novels as well, where each of our characters often carries a little piece of our soul. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I identify with almost all of my characters because each of them contains a part of me. And when I see how they solve problems or deal with difficult situations, it often helps me come up with creative solutions for challenges in my own life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you write a novel, you need to know your characters very well so you know exactly how they would react in different situations. As you throw challenges, setbacks, and hardships their way throughout the story, you also have to figure out how they would deal with these situations. And each character will approach these challenges differently based on their personality.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But all of that comes from within you. As you explore your characters and their journeys, you also start to better understand yourself. How would you react to those situations? How would you react in those situations? What would you do if your whole world suddenly fell apart around you? Who are you, really? </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That&#8217;s why writing a book can be such a powerful journey of self-discovery.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Why-Writing-a-Book-Is-a-Powerful-Journey-of-Self-Discovery-683x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6170" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Why-Writing-a-Book-Is-a-Powerful-Journey-of-Self-Discovery-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Why-Writing-a-Book-Is-a-Powerful-Journey-of-Self-Discovery-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Why-Writing-a-Book-Is-a-Powerful-Journey-of-Self-Discovery-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Why-Writing-a-Book-Is-a-Powerful-Journey-of-Self-Discovery-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Why-Writing-a-Book-Is-a-Powerful-Journey-of-Self-Discovery.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. It Teaches Patience and Persistence</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Sometimes we dream of accomplishing something. We see others have done it, and it looks easy. But what we don&#8217;t see is everything that they had to do, who they had to become, and what they had to sacrifice in order to achieve that dream.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you decide to write a book, you&#8217;re excited about following your dream. But once you start working on it, you quickly realize it&#8217;s not as easy as you first thought. You have to show up consistently for your book. You have to have patience when things don&#8217;t work out and you have to rewrite certain scenes, or sometimes even entire chapters, to make everything make sense. And you have to keep moving forward even when your progress seems slower than a snail.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing a book takes time, and sometimes progress is really, really slow. Those are often the moments when you&#8217;re most tempted to give up. You see how little you&#8217;ve written, how much you still have left to write, and how slowly the words seem to come some days. All you want is to have the manuscript finished NOW. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But if you keep showing up consistently, patiently writing when the finish line seems so far away, the rewards will be so much greater than simply having written a book. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You will have learned a valuable life skill. You will have learned not to give up on the things you&#8217;re working toward and how to patiently keep moving forward, even when progress feels slow. Sometimes the secret to achieving a dream isn&#8217;t talent or luck, it&#8217;s simply having the patience and persistence to keep going.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/The-Secret-to-Achieving-Your-Creative-Dreams-Patience-and-Persistence-683x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6169" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/The-Secret-to-Achieving-Your-Creative-Dreams-Patience-and-Persistence-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/The-Secret-to-Achieving-Your-Creative-Dreams-Patience-and-Persistence-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/The-Secret-to-Achieving-Your-Creative-Dreams-Patience-and-Persistence-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/The-Secret-to-Achieving-Your-Creative-Dreams-Patience-and-Persistence-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/The-Secret-to-Achieving-Your-Creative-Dreams-Patience-and-Persistence.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Writing a Book Develops Valuable Life Skills</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You might think that when you write a book, the main thing you learn is how to write. And while that&#8217;s certainly true, there are so many other valuable skills you develop along the way. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Besides learning to write, writing a book teaches you how to set long-term goals and milestones, break them down into smaller tasks, and organize them in a way that fits your life. This also teaches you time management skills. If you&#8217;re writing a book while working a full-time job, or writing in between other commitments, you have to figure out how to carve out time in your busy schedule to work on your book.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Writing a book also improves your self-discipline. When others are going out for dinner or a party you&#8217;d love to join, but you choose to stay home and work on your dream instead, you learn how to follow through on your goals.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And most importantly, you also learn how to solve problems. Your characters will get into a lot of trouble, go through many challenges and obstacles that you put in their path. It&#8217;s your job to figure out how to get them out of trouble.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And as you do that, you learn how you might handle difficult situations in your own life. You learn how to look for solutions, work through challenges, and keep moving forward when things get tough.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">All of these skills can then help you in your personal life, your career, and your everyday life, where every single day we encounter problems that need solving.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Surprising-Life-Skills-You-Can-Learn-by-Writing-a-Book-683x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6172" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Surprising-Life-Skills-You-Can-Learn-by-Writing-a-Book-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Surprising-Life-Skills-You-Can-Learn-by-Writing-a-Book-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Surprising-Life-Skills-You-Can-Learn-by-Writing-a-Book-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Surprising-Life-Skills-You-Can-Learn-by-Writing-a-Book-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Surprising-Life-Skills-You-Can-Learn-by-Writing-a-Book.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. It Helps You Become More Confident</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Every day you show up for your manuscript, every new paragraph, scene, and chapter you complete is another day where you showed up for yourself and for your book. And the more you do that, the more progress you make. And the more you see your progress, the more confident you become in your abilities as a writer, your ability to show up when things get hard, and your ability to do difficult things.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And that does wonders for your confidence. And I&#8217;m not talking here just about writing confidence. No, this new-gained confidence extends to all other areas of your life. You&#8217;ve proven to yourself that you can show up consistently and do the hard work, even when you don&#8217;t feel like it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST 1:</strong> <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-be-a-confident-writer/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-be-a-confident-writer/">How to Be a Confident Writer</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST 2:</strong> <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-motivation-hacks/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-motivation-hacks/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How to Write When You Don&#8217;t Feel Like Writing</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And then comes that powerful sense of accomplishment when you finally type &#8220;The End,&#8221; and it makes you feel invincible. You&#8217;ve accomplished something so few people ever do. It was difficult, it came with a lot of challenges, setbacks, and moments of self-doubt. But one word at a time, one writing session at a time, you managed to overcome all those challenges and you created something completely new.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST:</strong> <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-overcome-self-doubt-as-a-writer/" data-type="link" data-id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-overcome-self-doubt-as-a-writer/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How to Overcome Self-Doubt as a Writer</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And if you can do that for your manuscript, what else might you be capable of? </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As you&#8217;re writing your book, you discover that you&#8217;re stronger, more capable, and more resilient than you ever imagined. And that&#8217;s why writing a book can help you become a more confident person.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">6. It Can Inspire Other People</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So many people dream of achieving certain goals, but they&#8217;re scared to start. They&#8217;re afraid to take that journey into the unknown, to deal with all the difficulties along the way, not knowing if any of it is worth their time and effort. So they keep postponing their dream. They keep wondering, and at the same time, they keep regretting not having done it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But you can be their role model. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When people see how happy you are because you decided to follow your dream, how you didn&#8217;t give up when things got tough, and how you eventually reached your goal, that can be a huge source of inspiration for them. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When they see you pursuing your dream and making progress, it can make that desire in their own hearts grow even stronger. It reignites their dream and helps them believe that maybe, just maybe, it&#8217;s possible for them too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you show people that something is possible, you give them hope that it might be possible for them as well. And that hope can inspire them to start taking action toward their own dreams.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So you see, when you&#8217;re happy following your dreams, you also bring happiness to the world around you by inspiring them with your passion, determination, and joy. And sometimes, that&#8217;s exactly the little nudge someone needs to start pursuing their own dream.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-and-Inspire-Others-to-Follow-Theirs-683x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6167" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-and-Inspire-Others-to-Follow-Theirs-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-and-Inspire-Others-to-Follow-Theirs-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-and-Inspire-Others-to-Follow-Theirs-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-and-Inspire-Others-to-Follow-Theirs-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-and-Inspire-Others-to-Follow-Theirs.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">7. Writing a Book Removes the Regret of Never Trying</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Think about this for a moment. You&#8217;re 100 years old, and looking back on your life—the things you did, and the things you wish you had done. Do you really want writing a book to be one of the regrets on that list?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I&#8217;m 100, I want to have as few regrets as possible about the past. And not following a dream because of fear, self-doubt, and endless worries would be a huge regret for me. I&#8217;d much rather try and fail at something that I really want than never try at all and live with regret for the rest of my life. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Maybe you try writing a book, and you realize that you actually don&#8217;t like writing. Or maybe you realize you don&#8217;t enjoy writing about that particular topic. Even so, that&#8217;s not a failure. You&#8217;ve discovered something about yourself in the process. And that&#8217;s a win in my book.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And now that you know, you can move on to other dreams and projects you&#8217;d like to explore. But at least you gave it a try. It&#8217;s far better to try something and discover it wasn&#8217;t for you than to spend the rest of your life wondering and regretting that you never did it.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-So-You-Never-Have-to-Wonder-What-If-683x1024.png" alt="" class="wp-image-6168" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-So-You-Never-Have-to-Wonder-What-If-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-So-You-Never-Have-to-Wonder-What-If-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-So-You-Never-Have-to-Wonder-What-If-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-So-You-Never-Have-to-Wonder-What-If-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/Follow-Your-Dreams-So-You-Never-Have-to-Wonder-What-If.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ever since I was a child, becoming a scientist was my dream life. And I did it! I became a scientist, got my dream job in academia, and then one day I left it all behind. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Today I want to share with you a few valuable life lessons I learned on my journey from a science career in academia to embracing a fully creative life. If you&#8217;ve ever felt pulled toward a creative dream but weren&#8217;t sure whether you should follow it, I hope my story encourages you to listen to that little voice inside you and see where it might lead.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lesson #1: It&#8217;s okay to outgrow a dream you once loved and choose a new path</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ever since I was a child, I&#8217;ve been very curious about our world. I wanted to know how things worked and uncover the secrets of the universe. I&#8217;ve always loved learning, and from the moment we started studying physics in school, I fell in love with science.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So obviously, with all that curiosity and desire to learn everything, I chose to become a scientist. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It wasn&#8217;t an easy path. I was studying all the time, working really hard, and I spent many nights in the lab. But all that hard work was absolutely worth it. I had the chance to work on some really exciting projects. Some of the most fun projects involved doing <a href="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/scientific-research" type="link" id="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/scientific-research" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">scientific research</a> on ancient mummies and bones, and even on art forgeries.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Eventually, all that hard work paid off. I got my dream job, a faculty position at New York University Abu Dhabi, and it felt like I had finally achieved everything I&#8217;d been working for.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But then, over the years, things started to change. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I slowly started realizing that an academic life wasn&#8217;t actually the life I wanted for myself. And I certainly didn&#8217;t want to spend the rest of my life in academia. But I wasn&#8217;t exactly sure what I wanted instead. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And then I took a trip to <a href="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/post/moai-rapa-nui-easter-island" type="link" id="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/post/moai-rapa-nui-easter-island" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rapa Nui</a>. That trip inspired me to start writing a novel. And through writing, I discovered a whole new life—one filled with imagination, creativity, and endless possibilities.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The more I wrote, the more I fell in love with the creative process. Eventually, I realized that I didn&#8217;t want creativity to be something I squeezed into thirty minutes before work. I wanted it to become a much bigger part of my life. I wanted to build a creative life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So the lesson here is that sometimes we outgrow even the dreams we once loved deeply.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">That doesn&#8217;t mean those dreams were mistakes. They served their purpose. They made you happy, helped you grow, taught you valuable lessons, introduced you to wonderful people, and shaped you into the person you are today.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But sometimes a dream can only take you so far. And when the time is right, <strong>it&#8217;s okay to let go of an old dream so you can make room for a new one.</strong></p>

</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lesson #2: It&#8217;s okay to pursue a dream that doesn&#8217;t look like a &#8220;safe&#8221; career choice</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I don&#8217;t regret my time in academia at all. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I loved leading my own research group, working on whatever fun projects I was most interested in, and collaborating with other scientists who were just as excited about solving interesting problems. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not only was the research part a lot of fun, but I also really loved working in such an international environment. I loved traveling all over the world for my work, teaching courses I was excited about, and having the most amazing students who were eager to learn.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But there were also parts of the academic life that I didn&#8217;t enjoy. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;m talking here about the administrative work and sitting in lots of meetings. These are all completely normal parts of being a professor, but they just didn&#8217;t go well with my personality. And the more time passed, and the more administrative work I had to do, the more I realized I definitely don&#8217;t want to spend my entire life in academia.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I went from not being able to imagine any life outside academia to absolutely dreading the thought of that being my life until old age. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Luckily, by that point, I had already found my passion for writing and creativity. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And that made it a lot easier to leave academia because I didn&#8217;t just give up and quit. I quit to pursue a new dream, a new path I was excited about. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even so, leaving academia behind was still full of fear and guilt.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I worried about throwing away so many years of hard work. I worried about leaving behind a career that many people considered successful. And I worried about choosing a path that society definitely doesn&#8217;t consider the safest career option.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But I knew I had to try.<strong> If you never try, you&#8217;ll never know what might have been possible. Your creative life may be waiting for you just outside your comfort zone.</strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Your-Creative-Life-Begins-Outside-Your-Comfort-Zone-683x1024.png" alt="Your Creative Life Begins Outside Your Comfort Zone" class="wp-image-5978" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Your-Creative-Life-Begins-Outside-Your-Comfort-Zone-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Your-Creative-Life-Begins-Outside-Your-Comfort-Zone-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Your-Creative-Life-Begins-Outside-Your-Comfort-Zone-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Your-Creative-Life-Begins-Outside-Your-Comfort-Zone-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Your-Creative-Life-Begins-Outside-Your-Comfort-Zone.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now, I&#8217;m not suggesting that everyone should quit their job tomorrow and hope everything magically works out. Life is more complicated than that. But I am saying that if a creative dream keeps calling to you, don&#8217;t automatically dismiss it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Maybe you pursue it alongside your current job. Maybe you take small steps. Maybe you spend years preparing before making a big change.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A creative life doesn&#8217;t have to begin with a giant leap. Sometimes it begins with one small, brave step. Keep taking those small steps, and don&#8217;t give up on your dream.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-Creative-Life-Begins-with-One-Small-Step-683x1024.png" alt="A Creative Life Begins with One Small Step" class="wp-image-5969" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-Creative-Life-Begins-with-One-Small-Step-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-Creative-Life-Begins-with-One-Small-Step-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-Creative-Life-Begins-with-One-Small-Step-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-Creative-Life-Begins-with-One-Small-Step-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/A-Creative-Life-Begins-with-One-Small-Step.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lesson #3: Follow your intuition — A creative life often begins in unexpected ways</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Creativity entered my life very quietly. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In fact, I never even thought of writing a book. When someone first suggested I should write a non-fiction book related to my research, my first thought was:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;Me? Write a book? I&#8217;ve never even thought I could write a book.&#8221; </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But then I got really excited about the idea of writing a book. So, thank you, Vanessa! Thank you for encouraging me to write a book and unknowingly setting me on a path that would change my life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As I started thinking about what I could write, I took a trip to Rapa Nui, and suddenly a completely different idea appeared—a sci-fi novel set on the island. The island, with its <a href="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/post/moai-rapa-nui-easter-island" type="link" id="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/post/moai-rapa-nui-easter-island" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">magnificent moai statues</a> and its fascinating history (especially the story of the <a href="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/post/birdman-competition-rapa-nui-easter-island" type="link" id="https://authormariabaias.wixsite.com/home/post/birdman-competition-rapa-nui-easter-island" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Birdman competition</a>) felt like a treasure trove of story ideas waiting to be discovered.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And just like that, my plan to write a non-fiction book turned into a fiction book.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So I slowly started writing my novel. At the time, I was still working a more-than-full-time job, so I only wrote for about thirty minutes in the mornings and on weekends. I know it doesn&#8217;t sound like much, but little by little, the words added up.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Eventually, I typed two of the most exciting words a writer can ever type:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8220;The End.&#8221;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I had actually written an entire novel. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST:</strong> <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-write-a-book-with-a-full-time-job/" type="link" id="https://happywriterhub.com/how-to-write-a-book-with-a-full-time-job/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">How to Write a Book While Working a Full-Time Job</a></mark></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What&#8217;s interesting is that I wasn&#8217;t focused on publishing a book or changing my career. I was simply doing something that brought me joy. Writing helped me relax, recharge, and reconnect with my creativity.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And that small creative habit changed the direction of my life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It gave me the courage to leave academia to pursue a fully creative life. It inspired me to start the <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/blog/" type="link" id="https://happywriterhub.com/blog/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Happy Write Hub blog</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@MariaHappyWriterHub" type="link" id="https://www.youtube.com/@MariaHappyWriterHub" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">YouTube channel</a>, where I now get to create inspiring content for writers and support you on your own creative journey.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And my creative journey didn&#8217;t stop there. Along the way, it inspired me to write a sweet romance novel and eventually choose sweet romance as my writing path, even though that&#8217;s not at all what I imagined when I first left academia.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What started as thirty minutes of writing in the morning slowly grew into a completely new life, one filled with creativity, imagination, and the opportunity to help other writers pursue their dreams too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The lesson I learned here was to <strong>follow my passion and my intuition.</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you get quiet and really listen to your intuition, it guides you exactly where you need to be. It may not reveal the entire path, but it will show your the next step.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Trust-Your-Intuition-One-Step-at-a-Time-683x1024.png" alt="Trust Your Intuition One Step at a Time" class="wp-image-5976" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Trust-Your-Intuition-One-Step-at-a-Time-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Trust-Your-Intuition-One-Step-at-a-Time-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Trust-Your-Intuition-One-Step-at-a-Time-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Trust-Your-Intuition-One-Step-at-a-Time-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Trust-Your-Intuition-One-Step-at-a-Time.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For me, it led me from science to writing sci-fi, from writing sci-fi to Happy Writer Hub and writing sweet romance stories, and eventually to a creative life that feels deeply aligned with who I am today.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And this is where I need to be right now.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I don&#8217;t know where this path will lead in the future, or how my dreams and life will change along the way, but I&#8217;m excited to find out.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So<strong> if there&#8217;s something calling to you—a dream, a creative project, or even just a tiny spark of curiosity—don&#8217;t ignore it. Follow your intuition and see where it takes you. You never know how much it might change your life.</strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Follow-Your-Intuition-and-See-Where-It-Leads-683x1024.png" alt="Follow Your Intuition and See Where It Leads" class="wp-image-5974" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Follow-Your-Intuition-and-See-Where-It-Leads-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Follow-Your-Intuition-and-See-Where-It-Leads-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Follow-Your-Intuition-and-See-Where-It-Leads-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Follow-Your-Intuition-and-See-Where-It-Leads-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Follow-Your-Intuition-and-See-Where-It-Leads.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lesson #4: Putting fears aside is scary, but it&#8217;s worth it</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Leaving academia and choosing a creative life came with plenty of fears.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">First, it was the fear of leaving stability and the familiar to venture into the unknown. And this was a huge one, especially since I&#8217;m someone who loves stability and needs to feel safe. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then there was the fear of judgement. What would people think when I walked away from a career I had spent so many years working toward?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Then came the fear of disappointing people—disappointing my program head, my dean, my colleagues, and especially my parents. My parents had always been there for me and supported me through the long and challenging journey of becoming a professor, and now I was choosing to walk away from it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And then there was the fear of starting over, doing something completely new, leaving my old identity behind, and discovering who I really am outside of the academic bubble where I had spent most of my life. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was such a scary step, but I&#8217;m so happy I took it. I&#8217;m so happy I gathered the courage to leave and start on this new path.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What I didn&#8217;t realize at the time was that this journey wouldn&#8217;t just lead me to a creative life. It would also become a journey of self-discovery. It helped me learn more about who I am, what truly matters to me, and what kind of life I want to build for myself.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Of course, it&#8217;s still scary sometimes. I still don&#8217;t know exactly how things will turn out, and I don&#8217;t have the same sense of certainty and security I once had. But despite all that, I&#8217;m truly grateful to be on this path.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The lesson I learned is that it&#8217;s okay to allow yourself to want something new and choose a different direction.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes, it&#8217;s scary. Change almost always is.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But<strong> every time you choose courage over fear, every time you step into the unknown, you grow into a new version of yourself. You discover strengths you never knew you had, and possibilities you never would have found if you had stayed where it felt safe.</strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Choose-Courage-Over-Fear-Every-Time-683x1024.png" alt="Choose Courage Over Fear Every Time" class="wp-image-5970" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Choose-Courage-Over-Fear-Every-Time-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Choose-Courage-Over-Fear-Every-Time-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Choose-Courage-Over-Fear-Every-Time-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Choose-Courage-Over-Fear-Every-Time-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Choose-Courage-Over-Fear-Every-Time.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So no matter how scary it feels to move past your fears, don&#8217;t let them make your decisions for you. The things that help us grow the most are often the ones that scare us the most. And that&#8217;s exactly why they&#8217;re worth pursuing.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Dont-Let-Fear-Make-Your-Decisions-683x1024.png" alt="Don't Let Fear Make Your Decisions" class="wp-image-5973" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Dont-Let-Fear-Make-Your-Decisions-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Dont-Let-Fear-Make-Your-Decisions-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Dont-Let-Fear-Make-Your-Decisions-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Dont-Let-Fear-Make-Your-Decisions-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Dont-Let-Fear-Make-Your-Decisions.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lesson #5: Build a life that&#8217;s aligned with who you are</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some people may think that a creative life means working less or avoiding hard work altogether.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But it really doesn&#8217;t. I work just as hard now as I did in academia. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The work is very different, but it still requires a lot of hard work, discipline, perseverance, and a willingness to keep learning and keep improving. I&#8217;m constantly learning about writing, publishing, blogging, YouTube, entrepreneurship, marketing, and business. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s always something new to learn. Luckily, I love learning, so that&#8217;s not a problem for me. And neither is the hard work. Hard work helped me become a scientist. And now it&#8217;s helping me build this new chapter of my life.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So no, I&#8217;m not escaping work, or working less. I&#8217;m simply working towards building a life that&#8217;s deeply aligned with who I am today.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We all change over time. We grow. We evolve. We discover new passions.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s important to choose work that&#8217;s aligned with who you are and who you&#8217;re becoming. That&#8217;s how you continue to grow, evolve, and make your greatest contribution to the world.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you&#8217;re miserable doing work that&#8217;s not aligned with you, it&#8217;s difficult to live with joy and inspire the people around you. But <strong>when you&#8217;re doing something you love, your joy shines through. </strong>You bring more light into the world, and you inspire others to begin their own journey of self-discovery and pursue their dreams.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And that&#8217;s exactly what I hope you&#8217;ll do.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Doing-What-You-Love-Inspires-Others-683x1024.png" alt="Doing What You Love Inspires Others" class="wp-image-5971" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Doing-What-You-Love-Inspires-Others-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Doing-What-You-Love-Inspires-Others-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Doing-What-You-Love-Inspires-Others-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Doing-What-You-Love-Inspires-Others-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Doing-What-You-Love-Inspires-Others.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lesson #6: What I learned in the process of embracing a creative life</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I learned that <strong>it&#8217;s okay if your dreams change over time.</strong> I learned that <strong>it&#8217;s okay to pivot, follow new dreams, and see where those dreams lead you.</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also learned that <strong>it&#8217;s important to move past fear and do things that feel scary. That&#8217;s how we grow.</strong> If we stay in our safe corner, we may find comfort and security, but we also risk reaching the end of our lives wondering, &#8220;What if?”</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Why-Your-Comfort-Zone-Is-Holding-You-Back-683x1024.png" alt="Why Your Comfort Zone Is Holding You Back" class="wp-image-5977" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Why-Your-Comfort-Zone-Is-Holding-You-Back-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Why-Your-Comfort-Zone-Is-Holding-You-Back-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Why-Your-Comfort-Zone-Is-Holding-You-Back-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Why-Your-Comfort-Zone-Is-Holding-You-Back-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Why-Your-Comfort-Zone-Is-Holding-You-Back.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And perhaps the most important lesson I learned is to <strong>follow your intuition.</strong> Follow what feels right deep down in your heart, even when you can&#8217;t fully explain it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Will things always work out exactly the way we want them to? Probably not. Life has a funny way of surprising us and taking us on a path that gives us what we need, not necessarily what we want. Just like a well-crafted story.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But I&#8217;ve found that things do work out when you follow your intuition. Sometimes they work out exactly as you hoped. Other times they work out in a completely different way, helping you learn something important or guiding you toward a new chapter you never expected. Either way, they move you forward.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So be true to yourself. <strong>Don&#8217;t hide your light. Don&#8217;t even dim it for anyone. Let it shine as brightly as it can and allow that spark inside you to be your guiding light.</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Keep following your dreams, wherever they may lead.</strong></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
