Sounds like you already have lots of sources of inspiration. It’s great that you’re reading in the genre you want to write in. You can pick up so many ideas for your own novel by seeing how other authors approach things and from analyzing their plots and plot twists.

You could even set your story in the places you’ve lived. It would feel like experiencing those places all over again through the pages of your book.

Good luck with your mystery!

Have a great week!

I finally got a chance to find the post where I left a comment!! :-)

Thanks for the complement on my blog. :-) I do find it odd that your spelling errors weren't there and then they were. Because I couldn't believe you would spell anything wrong!!! :-)

I love mysteries, but not sure how to come up with a story line that would be intriguing. I had started one for young adults/teens way back when I was finishing up my correspondence course but never kept at it. Over the years I've read gothic romance mysteries (and have some in my collection) written by Victoria Holt, Mary Stewart, and Phyllis Whitney. Nancy Drew, of course. :-) I also love Jan Karon's Midford series, though I haven't read them all yet. Of course, I love Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie. My other genres are the old westerns by Zane Grey, The Lone Ranger, and horse stories - The Black Stallion. :-) Other books I love and have are the fantasy animal stories by Brian Jacques - the Redwall series. And the Narnia books.

I suppose the three places I've lived could provide me with inspiration for a good story. In the meantime, while I collect writing tips, and work on my sewing and blog, I can start to formulate some ideas for a mystery.

Have a great rest of your week!

Hi Linda,

I was so happy to see your comment! I'm happy you enjoyed my posts and subscribed to my newsletter.

I think that if you write, it means you are a writer. And from what I see you actually write quite a lot and you have a very nice blog. And you're so creative.

What kind of book would you like to write?

Thank you for pointing out the errors in my blog post on famous authors. I actually initially wrote them the right way so I have absolutely no idea where those extra letters came from. I usually read them several times and check with ProWritingAid and it looks like we both missed those misspellings. Thanks again for pointing them out.

Sounds like you've had quite a journey living in so many interesting places. I find that living in (and traveling to) new places always boosts my creativity. Do you feel the same way?

Have a nice weekend!

Hello Maria,

I came across your site today and enjoyed reading a couple of your posts. I also subscribed to your newsletters. :-)

I don't consider myself a real writer - I do have a blog that needs a lot more consistency and dedication to make it work better! And I do have an inkling of writing a book at some point. Many years ago, I took a correspondence writing course for children that I truly enjoyed. I never continued pursuing that genre, but I did get an article published in a local newspaper about The Salvation Army store. :-)

Some of the ideas you mentioned about keeping yourself from getting distracted - I can relate those ideas to my sewing. That's another passion I have as I make bags to sell.

I also love the idea of writing in a cafe!

Lately, I've been saving a lot of writing tips/quotes to my Pinterest account.

By the way....because I have a background in secretarial/administrative work which involved a lot of typing and proofreading documents/reports, I have to call to your attention - if you don't mind - there were a couple spelling errors I came across in this post. Agatha Christie and Mary Shelley. I even double checked online to make sure I was correct in the spelling of their names. :-)

Also....my husband and I lived on Prince Edward Island for about .9 years from 2009 to 2018. We are now back in the States. And yes, we lived about 20 minutes from Cavendish ("Avonlea") where Lucy Maud Montgomery lived and wrote her "Anne" books! I'm originally from Massachusetts. We relocated to South Carolina. So now I have to tolerate the high heat! But I do love having flowers year-round outside! That's a plus!

Have a nice rest of your day!
