<p>What if I told you that all it took to become a more productive writer was implementing a few small writing habits into your daily writing routine? </p>

<p>In this post, I’m sharing with you 9 simple daily writing habits that help you achieve writing flow faster while also enjoying the writing process. No more pressure. No more stress. No more burnout. You can integrate these small, playful writing habits into your everyday life to make writing feel lighter, easier, and more fun… even on busy days.</p>

</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #1: Start with a tiny writing warm-up</h2>

<p>Sometimes, when you start your writing session, it can take a little while to get into writing mode. One simple action you can take to help you get there much faster is reading what you wrote the previous day.</p>

<p>This small first step helps you warm up for the new writing session. As you read, you remember what you wrote, what your characters are doing right now, and what was the last thing that happened in the story. </p>

<p>By reconnecting with your story first, it becomes much easier, and more fun, to continue writing right where you left off.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #2: Create a daily writing trigger</h2>

<p>Is there anything you could use to signal to your brain that it&#8217;s time to start writing? Maybe you train your brain to know that your writing starts right after breakfast? Or after an early morning walk. Or, if you&#8217;re a night owl, right after dinner. </p>

<p>By adding your writing session into a specific time slot in your daily routine, it becomes much easier to start writing because you’re signaling to your brain that this is writing time now.</p>

<p>Your brain learns the pattern: you’ve done your daily exercise, and the next thing it expects is for you to sit down and write. So you’re basically training your muse to show up as soon as you take that action.</p>

<p>Writing inspiration&#8230; on command. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #3: End every session mid-sentence</h2>

<p>I&#8217;ve heard several authors suggest this habit, but it&#8217;s not one that works for me personally. I&#8217;ll still mention it here because many writers do find it useful. </p>

<p>The idea is to stop your writing session mid-sentence, so that the next day it&#8217;s easier to jump straight back into writing by continuing from where you left off. </p>

<p>Every time I&#8217;ve tried to do this, it has actually made me more confused. When I’m writing, I know exactly what I want to say, but if I stop mid-sentence, the next day I don’t always remember how I wanted to phrase that sentence or where I was going with it.</p>

<p>Give it a try and let me know if it works for you. I&#8217;m curious if it actually helped you get into writing faster.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Daily-Writing-Habits-for-Productive-Writers-683x1024.png" alt="Daily Writing Habits for Productive Writers" class="wp-image-5573" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Daily-Writing-Habits-for-Productive-Writers-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Daily-Writing-Habits-for-Productive-Writers-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Daily-Writing-Habits-for-Productive-Writers-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Daily-Writing-Habits-for-Productive-Writers-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Daily-Writing-Habits-for-Productive-Writers.png 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #4: Set a ridiculously easy daily writing goal</h2>

<p>Sometimes we procrastinate on starting to write because our word count target is overwhelming. If you say to yourself, &#8220;Today, I have to write 3000 words,&#8221; that can feel overwhelming, and it makes you dread even starting your writing session. </p>

<p>But what if, instead of 3000 words, you set your word count target to just 100 words? Suddenly, that feels much more achievable and a lot less intimidating.</p>

<p>And here&#8217;s the fun part: once you start writing, you often end up writing a lot more than 100 words. Lowering the word count target for the day might actually help you write more, and you&#8217;ll feel a lot less stressed while writing.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-write-more-and-stress-less-683x1024.png" alt="Stress less by setting a lower word count target" class="wp-image-5613" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-write-more-and-stress-less-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-write-more-and-stress-less-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-write-more-and-stress-less-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-write-more-and-stress-less-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-write-more-and-stress-less.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #5: Turn writing into a mini game</h2>

<p>Writing is always easier when you have fun writing. When you find ways to gamify writing, you turn a task into a playful, fun activity instead of a chore. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-have-fun-writing-683x1024.png" alt="Writing is easier when you have fun writing" class="wp-image-5615" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-have-fun-writing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-have-fun-writing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-have-fun-writing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-have-fun-writing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-have-fun-writing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>So what can you do to gamify writing? One simple way is to use the Pomodoro technique and, with each new writing sprint, try to beat your word count from the previous writing sprint. It becomes a friendly competition with yourself where the only winner is you. And no matter what your final word count is, you still win, because you’re advancing your book.</p>

<p><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>RELATED POST</strong>: <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/pomodoro-technique-for-writers-writing-sprints/" type="link" id="https://happywriterhub.com/pomodoro-technique-for-writers-writing-sprints/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Pomodoro Technique for Writers</a></mark></p>

<p>If you need help tracking your word count, I created a free word count tracker Google Sheet (linked in the form below) that you can use to track your writing sprints, your daily writing progress, and your overall book progress.</p>

<div style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-container aligncenter hwh-optin gb-block-container"><div class="gb-container-inside"><div class="gb-container-content" style="max-width:1600px">

<div class="wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow" style="background-color:#fff6f2;flex-basis:33.33%"><div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="800" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity.png" alt="Word Count Tracker for Writers" class="wp-image-4765" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity-300x300.png 300w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity-150x150.png 150w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity-768x768.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity-600x600.png 600w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Simple-Word-Count-Tracker-Google-Sheet-Writing-Productivity-75x75.png 75w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>
</div></div>

<div class="wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow" style="background-color:#fff6f2;flex-basis:66.66%"><div class="convertkit-form wp-block-convertkit-form" style=""><script async data-uid="5ac1a66d4e" src="https://happywriterhub.kit.com/5ac1a66d4e/index.js" data-jetpack-boost="ignore" data-no-defer="1" nowprocket></script></div>
</div>
</div>
</div></div></div>

<p>And if you love stickers, like I do, you can use them to decorate your writing tracker every time you reach a new writing milestone. Pretty stickers as a reward for playing a fun writing game.</p>

<p>There are so many fun ways to gamify writing and enjoy the writing sessions more. What&#8217;s your favorite way to gamify writing?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #6: Create a writing ritual you love</h2>

<p>Having a writing ritual signals to your brain that you&#8217;re in writing mode, and that this is the time to focus only on your writing. </p>

<p>Your writing ritual doesn&#8217;t have to be complicated. It can be as simple as having one dedicated spot in your home where you always write. Or maybe you always write at your favorite café. </p>

<p>You can also create a fully immersive writing atmosphere for your session using lighting, sound, a specific place, a dedicated keyboard, or even a special coffee next to you. All of these little cues signal to your brain that <em>this</em> is writing time. </p>

<p>My writing ritual includes fairy lights and the Ravenclaw Common Room sound atmosphere from ambient-mixer.com. What&#8217;s your special writing ritual?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #7: Separate writing time from editing time</h2>

<p>One thing that really helped me increase my daily writing productivity was separating writing from editing. Writing and editing use two different parts of the brain. </p>

<p>When you&#8217;re writing, you&#8217;re being creative. You&#8217;re building new worlds, creating new characters, and using your imagination to the fullest. When you&#8217;re editing, on the other hand, you&#8217;re being more analytical, checking for errors and fixing things that are already on the page. </p>

<p>So when you keep switching from writing to editing during the same session, everything slows down. Your brain keeps switching from creative mode to analytical mode, and that makes the entire process feel a lot harder than it needs to be.</p>

<p>A simple fix is to keep them separate in your daily writing routine. Write first and write messy. Nobody is going to see it or judge your first draft. And when it&#8217;s done, you can go into analytical mode and focus on refining and improving your manuscript.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #8: Celebrate showing up (not word count)</h2>

<p>When we&#8217;re ambitious and overly critical of ourselves, we can start to feel guilty if we show up for the writing session and end up not writing any new words. </p>

<p>But just because you didn&#8217;t add any new words to the page doesn&#8217;t mean that you didn&#8217;t make progress on your book. Maybe your writing session was spent brainstorming new ideas on where to take the plot next, or coming up with new ways to make your characters miserable, or how to save them.</p>

<p>Maybe you simply reread what you wrote last time, so you can reconnect with your story and figure out how to continue tomorrow. All of that <em>counts</em> as progress. </p>

<p>Just because you don&#8217;t have a new number to add to your word count tracker doesn&#8217;t mean you weren&#8217;t working. Writing is so much more than adding one word after another. It involves lots of brainstorming, world-building, character development, and just&#8230; thinking. </p>

<p>Celebrate showing up and spending time in the world of your book, even if it was just for a short while.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-enjoy-your-story-world-683x1024.png" alt="Celebrate showing up for your novel and spending time in the world of your book" class="wp-image-5614" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-enjoy-your-story-world-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-enjoy-your-story-world-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-enjoy-your-story-world-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-enjoy-your-story-world-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Writing-habits-to-enjoy-your-story-world.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Writing Habit #9: End the writing day on a cheerful note</h2>

<p>We often tend to focus on the critical side. So we say to ourselves, &#8220;I only wrote this many words today,&#8221; or &#8220;I should be further along after this writing session.&#8221; </p>

<p>But remember that every small progress is still progress. And both your current writing session <em>and</em> your next one will feel so much better if you take a moment to celebrate today&#8217;s wins.</p>

<p>Celebrate that you showed up. Give yourself a little sticker, or a bigger reward, for another day where you showed up for your book. Leave yourself an encouraging note for tomorrow. Find small, fun ways to celebrate and end today&#8217;s session on a positive note.</p>

<p>When you do that, the day and your writing will feel lighter and happier. You’ll enjoy the process so much more when you celebrate your progress instead of criticizing yourself for not being where you thought you “should” be.</p>

<p>Big writing goals are built on small daily writing habits. Choose the ones that feel good, let go of the rest, and enjoy the process of becoming a more consistent writer.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Big-writing-goals-are-built-on-small-daily-writing-habits-683x1024.png" alt="Big writing goals are built on small daily writing habits" class="wp-image-5611" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Big-writing-goals-are-built-on-small-daily-writing-habits-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Big-writing-goals-are-built-on-small-daily-writing-habits-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Big-writing-goals-are-built-on-small-daily-writing-habits-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Big-writing-goals-are-built-on-small-daily-writing-habits-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Big-writing-goals-are-built-on-small-daily-writing-habits.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>

From memorable settings to cultural details, we’ll explore exactly how to capture that on-screen magic and bring it to life in your own novel. Let&#8217;s discover together how movies inspire world-building for your novel.</p>

<p>In <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/writing-inspiration-from-movies-characters-plot/" type="link" id="https://happywriterhub.com/writing-inspiration-from-movies-characters-plot/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the previous blog post</a>, we explored how movies and TV shows help to level up your writing by inspiring unforgettable characters and engaging plots. Today, we continue our journey into the world of movies and TV shows by exploring ways in which movies inspire world-building for your novels and help you create rich, immersive settings for your own stories.</p>

</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Noticing the visual details that make worlds feel real</h2>

<p>World-building isn&#8217;t just about the big picture, like the design of the <em>Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry</em>. What makes it come alive are the small details, like the portraits that can speak and walk from painting to painting, the tiniest magical objects and creatures, and even the house robes in their distinct colors. It’s these little touches that make a reader feel like they&#8217;re part of that world.</p>

<p>Now, think about your own novel. What small, vivid elements can you incorporate into your own novel to make your world even more original and memorable? When you watch a movie or TV series, take a moment to notice the subtle visual cues—the patterns of a dress, the decorations of a café, the uniform of a starship captain. Then imagine how you could translate those visual cues into rich, descriptive writing.</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s a fun exercise for you: watch a movie that is based on a book, like <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Sorcerers-Stone-Book/dp/1338878921/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2445NKCOPFACU&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.rd7OE85hPMtYU760vi0LFL6D_AHQyQFIfvTeccmZl98gQwhclUOX9p-i8dlLg6zbaRnAxtp9xdIgjjcr2_BQUHFrkMrzeksh9Et5Kt883xQO847YIylqmH33C7D5nJskXSaKtaeJo1Eqp7ZBj1Y_hchXsUzYhuEaoMxIQYCj8A8MwY3aiat1_ISZbIoYiUWFVfOsU04l_HGP8lZbHm5c5gCxBU2QE_JzTaII_ERHVV8.iXuzGcu4CKS7Pgy0v6SLixg6Z-DcjmQ7-HaD5MqtmQo&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=harry+potter+books+and+the+sorcerer%27s+stone&amp;qid=1764892916&amp;sprefix=harry+potter+books+and%2Caps%2C260&amp;sr=8-1">Harry Potter</a></em>. Watch the movie and then compare the on-screen visuals to how J. K. Rowling described them in the books. Reflect on how you can use similar descriptions in your novels so your readers feel like they’re not just reading your story, but are actually seeing the world and living inside it?</p>

<p>So, the next time you&#8217;re watching a movie or TV show, pay close attention to all the small details you see. Those details are the secret ingredients that turn your fictional world from “pretty good” to “I never want to leave!”</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. Learning how worlds reflect the story’s mood</h2>

<p>World-building isn’t just about creating cool settings—it’s also one of the most powerful ways to set the tone for your story. If you want to provide a completely immersive experience for your readers, make sure that the world of your novel reflects and reinforces the tone and overall feeling of your story.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-683x1024.png" alt="How movies inspire world-building for your novel" class="wp-image-5429" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>Imagine setting the intense, high-stakes drama of <em>The 100</em> into the cozy, twinkle-lit streets of a Hallmark small-town romance. I like each, but in its own specific setting. That&#8217;s because the setting perfectly supports the story’s tone. A feel-good holiday backdrop, where everything is brimming with optimism, would instantly deflate <em>The 100</em>’s tension. Similarly, the lighthearted love story in a small-town romance would be completely overshadowed in the gritty, post-apocalyptic wasteland of <em>The 100</em>.</p>

<p>When watching the movie, take note of the world-building aspects you can implement in your own writing to enrich your story. Analyze the lighting, the color palettes, and the architecture, and figure out how to use these elements to amplify the tone and genre of your novel.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. Borrowing cultural elements to enrich your setting</h2>

<p>Besides creating memorable settings and setting the tone of your novel, world-building also consists of the cultural elements of your world. And while culture matters in every genre, it’s especially important in fantasy and sci-fi, where you actually have to invent new races, religions, and societies from scratch.</p>

<p>Going back to <em>The 100</em>, we see that the grounders developed a very different culture, beliefs, customs, and even a different language compared to the people who lived on the space station. Discovering these differences and understanding the grounders&#8217; worldview is part of the fun of watching this show.</p>

<p>The same is valid for any movie or book you love—full immersion comes from well-developed cultures. When watching a movie, pay attention to what makes those cultures unique and which elements enhance the story. Study their traditions, language, clothing, food, and even small everyday details to get additional inspiration for your novel. Compelling world-building is in the details. Your reader wants to know what makes your world unique, and carefully planning all these elements can make your world feel alive and give readers a reason to be fascinated by it. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-writing-inspiration-683x1024.png" alt="How movies inspire world-building for your novel - writing inspiration" class="wp-image-5430" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-writing-inspiration-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-writing-inspiration-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-writing-inspiration-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-writing-inspiration-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-novel-writing-inspiration.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Using sound and atmosphere for immersion</h2>

<p>Besides the visual cues, when comparing a movie to a book, another big difference that stands out is sound. In a movie, you can actually <em>hear</em> the birds singing, the person shouting, and the fireworks exploding. And you can definitely notice when total silence is strategically used to heighten the impact of the story. It&#8217;s impossible to directly experience these sounds in a book—but you <em>can</em> make your readers imagine them through vivid descriptions.</p>

<p>Watching movies and TV shows can help you with this. Pay close attention to what audio details filmmakers are using to bring the scene and the fictional world to life. Is the scene set in nature where you can hear the melodic sounds of birds, the gentle flow of a river, and the powerful gusts of wind? Or is it a tense moment where the lack of sound heightens the emotional impact of the scene? Or is it a chaotic, loud marketplace?</p>

<p>How would you describe all these scenes using showing instead of telling? And it&#8217;s the showing part that we can learn from movies. Instead of saying, &#8220;It&#8217;s a busy market,&#8221; let your readers <em>hear</em> the bargaining voices, the metallic sound of coins, and the arrival of trucks with fresh produce. And that&#8217;s what will make the reader feel like he&#8217;s actually in that market.</p>

<p>As a fun exercise, pick a movie scene, close your eyes, and just listen to the voices, the sudden noises, and all the background sounds you can identify. Now put them all into writing. Then, implement the same descriptive elements in your novel so readers feel like they’ve stepped right into your world.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Incorporating unique landmarks and signature spaces in the design of your fictional worlds</h2>

<p>All the memorable fictional worlds from the novels you loved feature certain iconic landmarks. Just think of Hogwarts, with its moving staircases, the Room of Requirement, and the Forbidden Forest. Just hearing those names instantly transports you back into the magical world of <em>Harry Potter</em>. These signature spaces are powerful tools that create more vivid and immersive worlds and enrich the storytelling.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-story-683x1024.png" alt="How movies inspire world-building for your story" class="wp-image-5428" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-story-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-story-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-story-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-story-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-movies-inspire-world-building-for-your-story.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>What&#8217;s a signature space that immediately comes to your mind from <em>Harry Potter</em> or another movie or TV series you loved? Let me know in the comments below the video. And then take a moment to reflect on it. What made that landmark or space memorable? Was it the backdrop to an epic battle or a heartwarming moment? Or do you remember it simply because it&#8217;s such a unique element in the design of that world? Does it have special significance for one of the characters?</p>

<p>Asking yourself these questions could inspire ideas for your own novels—helping you craft unique and meaningful landmarks that will truly make your story unforgettable.</p>

<p>So next time someone tries to make you feel guilty about binge-watching your favorite TV series, just smile and say, “It’s not procrastination—it’s research for my novel!” Now go ahead, dear happy writer, and design fictional worlds so vivid your readers will never want to leave.</p>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><strong>This post is all about writing without external validation and pursuing your passion for writing, even if no one else sees a single word of what you&#8217;ve written.</strong></p>

<p>In today&#8217;s world, everyone is constantly looking for validation from family, friends, and strangers, constantly checking how many likes, comments, and shares we got on our latest post. So how do you stay motivated to write a long book over many months when you have nothing to share with your community? Maybe it&#8217;s your first book, and you don&#8217;t even have a following yet. How do you keep writing without the external validation and the dopamine hit that comes with it? The short answer, dear happy writer, is that writing for the pure joy of it is so much more fun than writing for others&#8217; approval.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Writing-Without-External-Validation-683x1024.png" alt="The Joy of Writing Without External Praise - Writing Motivation" class="wp-image-4664" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Writing-Without-External-Validation-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Writing-Without-External-Validation-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Writing-Without-External-Validation-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Writing-Without-External-Validation-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Writing-Without-External-Validation.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>

<p>In this post, I will share with you some playful and effective ways to stay motivated to write without any praise from others. Excited to write just for the pure joy of writing? Let’s dive in and discover how to keep our creative energy high without expecting a standing ovation from enthusiastic fans.</p>

<p>If you prefer the video version, check out the YouTube video below for tips on staying consistent in your writing without external validation.</p>

</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Remembering why you write</h2>

<p>When we talked about how to write when you don&#8217;t feel like it, we discussed the importance of finding your why. Knowing and remembering why you started writing in the first place is an excellent motivator to keep writing, even when you don&#8217;t feel like it. And it also works for staying motivated to write without external validation. </p>

<p><mark style="background-color:#fff6f2" class="has-inline-color"><strong>Recommended reading:</strong> <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Find-Your-Why-Practical-Discovering/dp/0143111728/ref=sr_1_1?crid=13YJEWX2NANQP&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.q8Jlyf1C5SCry5Xh9EdPegHpFp-7lRoLhTML4hfwUjuC5Gwcea5tUEpDKTzgwHTMFotdlSHIRWEh04GPNddvOFUsm60x3VOTRU0BQBXCuB0nsfDqymwMJU1RMGvNiwSPjU_-Oa1b0Z4CRh6beKCmkT5UCwkN6UL9tY5X9v1WeBFsMiX0QqOKJAmRss9BNwq4JIpeIIhGi6I1S42pPT0Xs5pHvlxpBP6SWq4FL4pSIqU.1bIFEuxezR_dT2KtPUybnUsqW5s3_wI1S4b1a7QTvg0&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=find+your+why&amp;qid=1761953352&amp;sprefix=find+your+why%2Caps%2C207&amp;sr=8-1">Find Your WHY</a></em> by Simon Sinek.</mark></p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-write-for-the-pure-joy-of-writing-683x1024.png" alt="Writing without external validation - write for the pure joy of writing" class="wp-image-5411" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-write-for-the-pure-joy-of-writing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-write-for-the-pure-joy-of-writing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-write-for-the-pure-joy-of-writing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-write-for-the-pure-joy-of-writing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-write-for-the-pure-joy-of-writing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>You might be going through a period where you simply have nothing to share, and you just need to keep focusing on your manuscript so you can publish it, and then you&#8217;ll have something to share. But in the meantime, you have to keep going.</p>

<p>There are two instances that may require you to keep writing without external validation. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">The audience&#8217;s lack of engagement</h3>

<p>First, as sad as this may be, you won’t always get the external validation you’re hoping for. Maybe you wrote a book you&#8217;re absolutely thrilled with, and when you published it, it didn&#8217;t get the reviews you were expecting. It just didn&#8217;t click with some readers.</p>

<p>What do you do then? Never write another word again? </p>

<p>Out of the question! You&#8217;re a happy writer! You don&#8217;t give up that easily!</p>

<p>When you first started writing, you didn&#8217;t write for external validation. You wrote because you had a story (or more) to share. You published it, and now it&#8217;s out there for everyone to read. Maybe some readers didn&#8217;t give you a 5-star review, but even if you check the reviews of your top 3 favorite books, you&#8217;ll see that none of them have only 5-star reviews. Not everybody likes the same things. </p>

<p>It&#8217;s not the end of the world!</p>

<p>Just keep writing and keep focusing on the readers who enjoyed your book. They want to read your next book! Focus on that. Write it for them and write it for yourself.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-keep-writing-consistently-683x1024.png" alt="Writing without external validation - keep writing consistently" class="wp-image-5407" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-keep-writing-consistently-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-keep-writing-consistently-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-keep-writing-consistently-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-keep-writing-consistently-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-keep-writing-consistently.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">No updates for the audience yet</h3>

<p>Another reason for the absence of external validation is that you&#8217;re currently going through a period where you don&#8217;t have anything to share. That’s okay! Right now, put all your energy into writing your manuscript and getting it ready for the world. But how do you do that without external validation? </p>

<p>Focus on your characters and remember how much fun it is to bring your characters to life.</p>

<p>Remember the joy of writing simply to learn more about your characters and discover more about your world. Your characters take you on countless new adventures every day. In these tough moments, focus on the pure joy of discovery and exploration. Use that excitement to write your next book.</p>

<p>Once it’s finished, you’ll have something amazing to share. But in the meantime, the most important thing is to keep going and trust the process!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Gamifying the writing process</h2>

<p>Writing doesn&#8217;t have to be a serious activity, full of drama and worries. Worries about what might happen once you publish your book, or how long it will take for you to finish the book, or if people will love it will just make writing feel like a stressful work project. But if you gamify writing, you can enjoy every step you take.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-and-have-fun-writing-683x1024.png" alt="Writing without external validation and have fun writing" class="wp-image-5409" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-and-have-fun-writing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-and-have-fun-writing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-and-have-fun-writing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-and-have-fun-writing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Writing-without-external-validation-and-have-fun-writing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>Remember when you were a kid and you would be out playing for hours without even realizing how much time had passed? Why not use that in our work? Why does work have to be this stressful activity filled with worries and deadlines? The truth is, writing it doesn&#8217;t have to feel like that. So let&#8217;s turn work into play!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to gamify writing</h3>

<p>To advance in any game, you must complete a series of challenges or levels. We can apply the same concept to writing. Thus, instead of having an endless to-do list, we&#8217;ll have the levels of the game.</p>

<p>You wrote a chapter? Awesome! You get to advance to the next level! As your book grows, you keep advancing from one level to the next, just like you would in a game. So you switch your mindset from &#8220;I have to write 1,000 words today&#8221; to &#8220;I&#8217;ll move up one level today!&#8221; Isn&#8217;t that way more fun? </p>

<p>And here&#8217;s how to make the writing game even more fun: set yourself some rewards for when you move up a level, or when you achieve a certain number of words. Just like you would earn coins or cool gear as a video game progresses, you will get some mini-rewards with every new level or word count milestone you complete. And of course, save the big reward for when you finish the whole book. You&#8217;ve just finished the game—you deserve it!</p>

<p>You played the game, had fun along the way, and you finished the book! And the best part? You did it all without expecting any external validation. Just your own joy, your own inner drive, and a whole lot of fun. Now that’s definitely something you should feel proud of!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Word Count Mountain: Write to the Top!</h4>

<p>To have even more fun with the writing game, I created this free word count mountain tracker to turn your writing journey into an exciting adventure, where you write all the way to the top of your mountain! Each milestone represents a checkpoint on your climb to the word count target for your book. </p>

<p>I created 4 versions of the game: one for 100k, one for 80k, one for 60k, and one where you set your own goal and milestones. You can download them using the form below.</p>

<p>As you reach each word count milestone, color in the path, add stickers, or mark your progress in a way that feels rewarding to you. Not only will you stay motivated by seeing your progress visually, but you&#8217;ll also turn writing into a game where each word brings you closer to the summit—your finished book!</p>

</div></div></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Falling in love with your work</h2>

<p>Yes, we all want our readers to love our books. But what&#8217;s even more important is that we love what we wrote. Are you happy with your work? Do you feel like you really gave it your best? Do you absolutely adore your characters and the wild adventures you’ve sent them on? A &#8220;yes&#8221; to these questions ensures a fun and satisfying writing journey—no external validation needed.</p>

<p>How do you fall in love with your own writing? Enjoy the writing process and keep a record of your best lines.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Enjoy the journey, not just the destination</h3>

<p>Every writer dreams of that magical moment when they get to hold their published book in their hands. We all want to see all that hard work, the countless hours of coffee-fueled typing and the endless revisions pay off, and finally share our craft with the world. But you don&#8217;t have to wait until that moment to enjoy your work. You can enjoy it right now!</p>

<p>Remember that the joy of writing doesn’t have to come from sharing it with the world—it can come from the act of writing itself! When you love your characters, enjoy crafting the scenes, and building your imaginary worlds, the writing process itself becomes a deeply rewarding experience. You&#8217;re so immersed in that world, you don&#8217;t need anyone&#8217;s validation to feel good about your work. You feel good about it because you&#8217;re in a magical state of flow where you feel like you&#8217;re not just writing the story, but you&#8217;re actually living the adventure of your life through your characters. What could be more fun than that?</p>

<p>Shifting your focus from expecting praise for your work to enjoying it frees you to create with more joy, curiosity, and confidence—because you&#8217;re no longer writing to impress others, you&#8217;re writing to express your creativity.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-to-stay-motivated-to-write-without-external-validation-683x1024.png" alt="How to stay motivated to write without external validation - writing motivation for authors" class="wp-image-5412" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-to-stay-motivated-to-write-without-external-validation-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-to-stay-motivated-to-write-without-external-validation-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-to-stay-motivated-to-write-without-external-validation-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-to-stay-motivated-to-write-without-external-validation-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/How-to-stay-motivated-to-write-without-external-validation.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Keep a &#8220;Wow, I wrote that!&#8221; file</h3>

<p>Why wait for someone else to validate your art? You can do it yourself!</p>

<p>Have you ever taken a break from your manuscript for a few days or weeks, and when you finally read it again, you stumbled upon a sentence so unexpectedly brilliant you actually thought to yourself, &#8220;I wrote that? Wow, that&#8217;s awesome!&#8221; The pride you&#8217;re feeling in that moment comes from lots of hard work coupled with inspired creativity. And it&#8217;s the only validation you need.</p>

<p>But don&#8217;t just celebrate it then and move on—capture that magic and preserve it for the future! Use it to fuel your future motivation and creativity. Start a file where you collect all those snippets of your brilliant writing. Every time you surprise yourself with something amazing you’ve written, make sure you add it to your brag file. Your future self will thank you for it, especially during those tough writing days filled with self-doubt. Use it to remind yourself just how brilliant your writing can be, and you won’t need anyone else’s validation to prove it!</p>

<p>Your own words create magic, and they are all the validation you need!</p>

<p class="has-text-align-center"><strong>This post is all about how to write when you don’t feel like writing so you can stop waiting for inspiration and start making progress on your book.</strong></p>

<p>Let’s be real—some days, writing seems impossible. You sit there staring at your laptop, and suddenly, reorganizing your closet feels so urgent, you just have to get up and do it. Sound familiar? Trust me, dear happy writer, we’ve all had those days. But guess what? You don’t have to be at the mercy of “not feeling like it.” In this post, I’m sharing with you five motivational tips on how to write when you don’t feel like writing.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/How-to-Write-when-You-Dont-Feel-Like-Writing-683x1024.png" alt="How to Get Motivated to Write Even on Hard Days" class="wp-image-4650" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/How-to-Write-when-You-Dont-Feel-Like-Writing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/How-to-Write-when-You-Dont-Feel-Like-Writing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/How-to-Write-when-You-Dont-Feel-Like-Writing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/How-to-Write-when-You-Dont-Feel-Like-Writing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/How-to-Write-when-You-Dont-Feel-Like-Writing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>To write when you don&#8217;t feel like writing, it&#8217;s important to recognize that writing isn’t just about talent and inspiration. What&#8217;s even more important is showing up and doing the work. Yes, even when you don’t feel like it! You can use the following motivational tips to reignite your creative spark and rekindle with your love of writing. So, if you’re ready to stop waiting for inspiration and take charge of your creativity, let’s dive in!</p>

</div></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Reconnect with your writing purpose</h2>

<p>Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the hustle and grind that we forget <em>why</em> we do that work. Do you remember what motivated you to start that project? In those moments when you sit in front of the computer and you don&#8217;t feel like writing, it&#8217;s a good time to reconnect with your writing purpose.</p>

<p>I&#8217;m a huge fan of Simon Sinek and his book <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Start-Why-Simon-Sinek/dp/1591844517/ref=sr_1_3?crid=2A0KNGKUDULSN&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bDqEqmj6Xpz8IkD9coyJzG5QIP0jQBO64h7OW5rZ75ZryY7ud1skoMid32CemopE_5KN2LjYq3tbNS9PWcNU5032wjzu0Qlj5eFq2dOlbe9cw_3-aTNvuKC445aN0phvPMU2DG_eD-xHy6Ry4x2sndHqIc8JGE62AbXwX_whivurgV1rCngeRBuq2NiW5zER8_z4cnvyy7x44qlVfSSPIE2-bDLJySsc7c9uYbMu_jk.wxwvKcQNhVsfgT1-lRsbH0B9-QXOEGDFaeVuOSPwQso&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=start+with+why&amp;qid=1760576397&amp;sprefix=start+with+why%2Caps%2C168&amp;sr=8-3"><em>Start with WHY</em></a>. I highly, HIGHLY recommend reading this book, or at least watching Simon Sinek&#8217;s TED talk on <a href="https://www.ted.com/talks/simon_sinek_how_great_leaders_inspire_action"><em>How great leaders inspire action</em></a>.</p>

<p>Your writing purpose comes first. It’s the biggest force that pulls you towards achieving your goal. When you’re connected to your writing purpose, it becomes easier to see how to move forward and which small, meaningful steps will help you turn your dream into reality.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Find your writing purpose</h3>

<p>As a writer, you first need to ask yourself why you started writing in the first place. Why do you want to write and publish that book? Why is this book important to you? If you&#8217;re writing it and putting so many hours and so much effort into it, then it must be important. You just have to remind yourself why.</p>

<p>Is there a certain life lesson you learned and feel it&#8217;s important to share through your story? Do you want to inspire or caution others through your shared life lessons? Or do you do it for the excitement of creating new worlds and joining your characters on thrilling adventures? </p>

<p>Maybe you do it because you really want to see your book on a bookshelf in a bookstore. Did you start writing because want to get some additional income, or in the hopes of one day quitting your job and earning a full income from your writing?</p>

<p>There isn&#8217;t a right or wrong answer to this question. It&#8217;s all about what&#8217;s important to you. Your motivation for writing may not be the same as mine or the other authors you know, and that&#8217;s okay. </p>

<p>What matters is that your writing purpose is powerful enough to keep you going, even on the toughest writing days. As long as it fuels your passion and keeps you moving forward, it’s the perfect motivation for you.</p>

<p>Inspired by Simon Sinek’s work on finding your why, I took the time to reflect on what truly motivates me—and here is my <em>why</em> for Happy Writer Hub.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">My Happy Writer Hub WHY</h4>

<p>My personal <em>why</em> for this <a href="https://happywriterhub.com/blog/" type="link" id="https://happywriterhub.com/blog/">Happy Writer Hub blog</a> and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/@HappyWriterHub" type="link" id="https://www.youtube.com/@HappyWriterHub">YouTube channel</a> is very simple and rooted in my belief that doing work you love can bring joy—not just to your life, but to the world around you. My <em>why</em> is to inspire writers to follow their dreams, do what they love, have fun along the way, and stay true to their passion even during the toughest times. By inspiring them to embrace playfulness and joy at every stage, I aim to support writers in achieving their dreams and never giving up on their passion.</p>

<p><strong>Bring your purpose to life:</strong> Keep a sticky note with your writing purpose next to your computer so you always feel inspired, focused, and excited to show up and write.</p>

<p>If you need help in getting clear on your writing motivation, I created a free one-page downloadable file to help you find your writing motivation to inspire you to write when you don&#8217;t feel like writing. I hope this provides some extra motivation during those challenging writing days.</p>

<p>And if you’d like to explore purpose on a deeper, life-wide level—not just for writing—I highly recommend Simon Sinek’s work, including his <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Start-Why-Leaders-Inspire-Everyone/dp/1591846447/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;pd_rd_w=rFkYI&amp;content-id=amzn1.sym.c1db5470-7e06-4451-8f99-4241d2e59954%3Aamzn1.symc.5a16118f-86f0-44cd-8e3e-6c5f82df43d0&amp;pf_rd_p=c1db5470-7e06-4451-8f99-4241d2e59954&amp;pf_rd_r=S0V7ETB3K0TCR5ANAASC&amp;pd_rd_wg=GueBR&amp;pd_rd_r=b912dba7-1544-40b8-84db-441804a8d67b&amp;ref_=pd_hp_d_atf_ci_mcx_mr_ca_hp_atf_d">Start with WHY</a></em> and <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Find-Your-Why-Practical-Discovering/dp/0143111728/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;pd_rd_w=rFkYI&amp;content-id=amzn1.sym.c1db5470-7e06-4451-8f99-4241d2e59954%3Aamzn1.symc.5a16118f-86f0-44cd-8e3e-6c5f82df43d0&amp;pf_rd_p=c1db5470-7e06-4451-8f99-4241d2e59954&amp;pf_rd_r=S0V7ETB3K0TCR5ANAASC&amp;pd_rd_wg=GueBR&amp;pd_rd_r=b912dba7-1544-40b8-84db-441804a8d67b&amp;ref_=pd_hp_d_atf_ci_mcx_mr_ca_hp_atf_d">Find Your WHY</a></em> book and his <a href="https://simonsinek.com/product/find-your-why-with-simon/"><em>Find Your WHY</em></a> course.<a id="73ef103c-c830-43a9-a154-d6ea9361712b-link" href="#73ef103c-c830-43a9-a154-d6ea9361712b">1</a></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lower the stakes and start small</h2>

<p>Sometimes, even sitting down to write seems like a daunting task. Why? Because you&#8217;re thinking that you have to sit down and write a novel, or an entire chapter. Either way, it&#8217;s a lot of words and overwhelm takes over, slowly killing your motivation even before you start the writing session.</p>

<p>When you&#8217;re feeling overwhelmed by how far you still need to go to finish the book, remember this: <em>Rome wasn&#8217;t built in a day</em>. Every masterpiece takes time. You don&#8217;t have to write it all in one session. (Though if you do, please let the rest of us know how you do it!). You don&#8217;t even have to write a whole chapter.</p>

<p>Aim for 100 words. Start with one sentence, and then the next and then the next. Take it one word at a time, and soon enough, you&#8217;ll see just how far you&#8217;ve come. As you start writing, it often happens that you write a lot more than 100 words. Starting is the hardest part, but once you get rolling, the process gets easier and the words flow like magic.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-just-start-writing-683x1024.png" alt="Write when you don't feel like writing - just start writing" class="wp-image-5363" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-just-start-writing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-just-start-writing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-just-start-writing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-just-start-writing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-just-start-writing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p><strong>Make it happen: </strong>Sit down and write for five minutes, knowing that writing even one sentence will bring you closer to finishing the novel. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Set the stage for inspiration</h2>

<p>Have you ever sat down to write, only to find yourself distracted by all the clutter on your desk? The problem is not that you lack the motivation to write. It&#8217;s that there&#8217;s just too much visual clutter for you to focus.</p>

<p>Your writing environment can either fuel or drain your motivation. Optimizing your workspace will help you get into a writing mindset faster, boosting your productivity levels throughout your writing session.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to optimize your writing space</h3>

<p>Here are a few things you can do to optimize your writing space:</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>A good place to start is by cleaning your desk. Remove all the clutter and keep only the essentials. Your brain will thank you for it. Clear desk, clear mind. And a clear mind leads to increased focus and boosted creativity.</li>

<li>Create the perfect ambiance to elevate your creativity. Do you write better under bright lights, or do you find that the words flow more smoothly under the warm glow of candlelight? I prefer using fairy lights for my writing sessions—I feel like my ideas flow better under their magical glow.</li>

<li>Sound or no sound? Some writers thrive in total silence. In this case, noise-canceling headphones are your best friends. Do you write better with music? Then, I recommend creating a playlist with the music you find most inspiring for your writing. I tried both, and I found that the perfect boost for my creativity comes from an ambient sound that I play from <a href="https://www.ambient-mixer.com/">ambient-mixer.com</a>.</li>
</ol>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Increase-your-writing-focus-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-683x1024.png" alt="Increase your writing focus to write when you don't feel like writing" class="wp-image-5364" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Increase-your-writing-focus-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Increase-your-writing-focus-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Increase-your-writing-focus-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Increase-your-writing-focus-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Increase-your-writing-focus-to-write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<p>What are your preferred writing conditions? Have you ever tried ambient-mixer.com? If so, which is your favorite audio atmosphere? My go-to track for writing my novels is the <em><a href="https://harry-potter-sounds.ambient-mixer.com/ravenclaw-common-room">Ravenclaw Common Room</a></em>. But they offer thousands of ambient sounds you can explore to help boost your writing productivity. And it&#8217;s all free!</p>

<p><strong>Action tip: </strong>Clean your desk and create an inspiring playlist to make your writing sessions more enjoyable.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A rewards game to write when you don&#8217;t feel like writing</h2>

<p>Ideally, you should have intrinsic rewards for your work. Rejoicing in the fact that you&#8217;re working on your passion project, you&#8217;re improving your writing, and crafting stories that will touch the hearts of your readers—these are all examples of meaningful intrinsic rewards. </p>

<p>Sometimes on tough days, intrinsic rewards are not enough, and we need a little extra push. That&#8217;s when extrinsic rewards could do the trick.</p>

<p>Is there a trip you would love to take? A place you&#8217;ve been dreaming of visiting? That would be an awesome extrinsic reward to celebrate publishing the novel you&#8217;re putting so much effort into writing right now. I have a pretty exciting trip planned for when I publish my debut novel. I&#8217;m so looking forward to my trip to Squamish and having lunch at Jack&#8217;s bar (<em>Virgin River</em> fans, you know what I&#8217;m talking about).</p>

<p>You don&#8217;t have to celebrate only the big milestones. You can reward yourself with smaller rewards for completing smaller tasks. A small reward for completing a writing session, advancing your novel by 1000 words, or editing a full chapter can be the perfect motivation.</p>

<p>Is there a new TV show you want to watch? Dying to see what happens in the next episode of your favorite series? Don&#8217;t watch it! Use it as a reward instead. Decide to only watch a new episode when you&#8217;ve achieved the word count for the day. The desire to see what happens next to your favorite characters can be an excellent motivation to do the hard work. If there were a new season of <em>The 100</em>, I guarantee I would get my word count for the day just to make sure I get to see a new episode of my favorite series ever.</p>

<p>I know many writers love stationery, dream of stationery, and&#8230; have no more space for stationery. And yet, there&#8217;s that beautiful set of floral washi tapes or Happy Planner stickers you&#8217;ve been eyeing and stopping yourself from adding to cart every time you visit the Amazon page. You can never have too many stickers or washi tape, right? But apply this tip with caution. If you buy new stationery every time you hit 1000 words, you might have to move to a bigger house just to fit it all in.</p>

<p><strong>Go for it: </strong>Set up a reward system for different milestones to turn writing into play and keep your fingers on the keyboard.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Visualize the finish line</h2>

<p>Sometimes, when you see how many words you still have left to complete your manuscript, it can be discouraging. You have the feeling that it will never happen, that your goal is just too far. But it&#8217;s not! It&#8217;s closer than you think. You just have to push through the obstacles, one word at a time, and you&#8217;ll be at the finish line before you know it.</p>

<p>Remember how you saw yourself holding your published book in your hands when you first thought of writing a book? Motivation increases when you can visualize the outcome of your hard work. </p>

<p>Visualize that outcome again: see yourself holding the book in your hands. Imagine the beautiful cover, the feel of the pages, the smell of that freshly printed book. Don&#8217;t you feel excited just thinking about it? If just visualizing that moment feels exciting, imagine how incredible it will be when it actually happens.</p>

<p>You want that vision to become a reality, don&#8217;t you? With that image fresh in your mind, get back to the keyboard and start typing. Let your vision pull you toward your goal and turn your dream into reality.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-to-achieve-your-writing-goal-683x1024.png" alt="Write when you don't feel like writing to achieve your writing goal" class="wp-image-5361" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-to-achieve-your-writing-goal-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-to-achieve-your-writing-goal-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-to-achieve-your-writing-goal-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-to-achieve-your-writing-goal-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Write-when-you-dont-feel-like-writing-to-achieve-your-writing-goal.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Practical tip: </strong>Create a vision board focused on everything you want to see happen for your book and use it to focus on your future success.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Book ideas from observing the world</h2>

<p>The world can be a great source of inspiration for your novel. By becoming a keen observer of the people you meet and the places you visit, and taking a minute to reflect on the events you&#8217;ve experienced in your life, you&#8217;re practically set for life. Ideas will come flooding into your brain. You just have to pay attention.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-by-paying-attention-to-the-world-683x1024.png" alt="How to get book ideas by paying attention to the world" class="wp-image-5350" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-by-paying-attention-to-the-world-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-by-paying-attention-to-the-world-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-by-paying-attention-to-the-world-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-by-paying-attention-to-the-world-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-by-paying-attention-to-the-world.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Characters based on real-world people</h3>

<p>Think about that annoying colleague of yours who belittles you on every occasion, or the selfless friend who is always there for everyone, no matter what. How about that adventurous friend of yours who travels all over the world and is fearlessly experiencing all the world has to offer? Could they be a source of inspiration for your characters? Of course they can!</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re thinking that you can&#8217;t describe a character exactly like the irritating guy from your office because they would know you&#8217;re talking about them, you&#8217;re right. And it would probably make your work environment a bit uncomfortable&#8230; But you can still use them as a source of inspiration for your character. You don&#8217;t have to give them the exact same traits. They can be similar ones. Just make sure you don&#8217;t use their name. That would make it pretty obvious&#8230;</p>

<p>You know what I like about creating fictional characters? I&#8217;m in charge of what happens to them. So, both the good guys and the bad guys get the ending they truly deserve. At least in the fictional world&#8230; This is one of the reasons I love Stephen King&#8217;s books so much—people always get what they deserve in the end.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Settings based on real-world places</h3>

<p>You can get inspiration for your settings from something as small as the coffee shop you regularly visit or as grand as the Grand Canyon or as remote as the Island of Rapa Nui. Take a good look at the places you visit, observe the little details, take notes and use them as the basis of your settings. Do you like the floral motifs used to decorate your favorite cafe? Use that and add your own spin to it. If you like it, your readers will probably like it, too.</p>

<p>Have you ever taken a trip to one of our world’s most breathtaking natural wonders? If you did, it&#8217;s very likely you will remember even the smallest details many years later. Don&#8217;t let these incredible memories fade away. Capture them into words, and give others the chance to enjoy those locations through your beautifully crafted prose. Let your stories bring those places to life!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Using Google Maps for Your Writing Research</h4>

<p>Are you worried because you haven&#8217;t traveled anywhere outside your hometown? Do not worry, dear happy writer, I&#8217;ve got you covered. Or, more accurately, Google Maps has you covered.</p>

<p>The level of detail you can uncover with Google Maps of any location is absolutely incredible. You can explore remote areas and take virtual road trips, all from the comfort of your home. Does it match the experience of being there in person? No, but it’s still a fantastic tool for research and can take you exactly where your story needs to go. Not to mention it&#8217;s a lot cheaper than going there in person!</p>

<p>A few years ago, I went on my dream trip to the island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). I had dreamt of visiting the island and seeing the famous <em>moai</em> statues ever since I was a child. It was the best holiday of my life, and the island, with all of its fascinating history and culture, became the inspiration for my first novel.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Book ideas from history and mythology</h2>

<p>History and myths are treasure troves of ideas. Many famous novels are based on historical events. Some examples include <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Gone-Wind-Margaret-Mitchell/dp/1451635621/ref=sr_1_1?crid=OO6JTS5F2DB2&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.8L1nrHg5Wv-D5Z4otfxqomq8RoWQQBB-N8E49_lrXS9SpuV5iOr2zpAgIqDPFrIm5sONBAi8aQmd8ulJYmRGRuG8A27sivtjAaLPnOSfJbdfDaOPQBQDd5nATN21AS4zjH2KmyqC_1uGwWMCzSAYrXZfYk1oQrYSy4pwApS0nlb78nvakcRshow-WiOl4R8QyMivyBikF5ZetsxoC-_939-Lq4fyHw57IHgaTWgc0ck.Fd_f_ZYdvKaNf5RYS8NeEFcZzbZY2Kg6F53skRTDJbE&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=Gone+with+the+Wind+%28Margaret+Mitchell%29&amp;qid=1760461445&amp;refinements=p_n_feature_browse-bin%3A2656022011&amp;rnid=618072011&amp;sprefix=gone+with+the+wind+margaret+mitchell+%2Caps%2C183&amp;sr=8-1">Gone with the Wind</a></em> (Margaret Mitchell), <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Pompeii-Novel-Robert-Harris/dp/0812974611/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1CDWFONSW9R8H&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.obJoQUABqwHNHMD6qb-TCLibUMMvRTd1QVO0bH89wJmNNc7jliI1Jc0IFfUZGRp-8caI6YL5Ko67w80Mk0A3vOwfd9XPgERw6G5mO8k0UqCFRRb8gKgkgLEEOJZtLT8hYr_ojMGzqjFqb1IwSnexxX9hYL3OsFkSjQCQrzt64FTFdSw1hUaaaNAT7n0VkeaLvQBDTSLFMXVWFt9XigzMQO3QeyC8791PdGE2TIA2ceg._kKF1AYJwgPbgyCYmhBSxYUAHiKlXXYxSMzYcBErmyc&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=Pompeii+%28Robert+Harris%29&amp;qid=1760461489&amp;sprefix=pompeii+robert+harris+%2Caps%2C230&amp;sr=8-1">Pompeii</a></em> (Robert Harris), <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/I-Was-Anastasia-Ariel-Lawhon/dp/1101973315/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2GR2NAKBFJ6Q7&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.rt9d3HT0KxtXn0Wi91plol4sAar_O5QbcTD1Frri3PzBYmYDWO2_3prdy7Z0NVNPxPhxy_MgH6lE6iKqknuh3A.j97Sp8TOpoI-Gc1Tq2j6U84OnfSe-lrfKy-UFyU762g&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=I+was+Anastasia+%28Ariel+Lawhon%29&amp;qid=1760461582&amp;sprefix=i+was+anastasia+ariel+lawhon+%2Caps%2C167&amp;sr=8-1">I was Anastasia</a></em> (Ariel Lawhon), and <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Accidental-Empress-Novel-Allison-Pataki/dp/147679474X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3DY0G6KD1M9UW&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bLCQl8iA7o_t1aCbPSFZ1uJx3givl6Qe8xEwTHBdJw-EbtpvljZtDLN_w99e0jU3.oAc0AZniyxI_buidnbd2xvpxcUSogzJZGbJqIQSMs3A&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=The+Accidental+Empress+%28Allison+Pataki%29&amp;qid=1760461626&amp;sprefix=the+accidental+empress+allison+pataki+%2Caps%2C170&amp;sr=8-1">The Accidental Empress</a></em> (Allison Pataki), each bringing historical events and characters to life from a fresh perspective—proof that history is a goldmine for storytelling!</p>

<p>You don&#8217;t enjoy reading history, but prefer myths and legends instead? No problem! There are lots of interesting fantasy novels rooted in myths and legends. </p>

<p>How about retelling your favorite myth from a different perspective? Give it a spin to fit your own view of the events, or how you wished it had happened.</p>

<p>Reimagine the popular myths and legends the way you&#8217;ve always wished they had happened. You could tweak the personalities of your main characters or place them in a completely different setting. You can even magically transport them to the modern world and see how they react in such an unfamiliar environment. Or maybe they’ve been living in the modern world all along, and you’re retelling the legend with a fresh, contemporary twist. </p>

<p>The possibilities are endless—transform these timeless tales and share your own version with the world!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Playful &#8220;what if&#8221; questions</h2>

<p>What if your puppy turned into a superhero who fought villains at night? What if every time you got out of the metro at a stop, you entered an alternate universe? What if you woke up one day and everyone around you was replaced by a robot that looked exactly like them?</p>

<p>This is such a fun game to play! There are countless &#8220;what if&#8221; scenarios that you can come up with. All of them could be the plot of your next best-selling novel. And it&#8217;s guaranteed to never run out of ideas. Just keep imagining &#8220;what if&#8221; and make it fun. Try to make the scenarios as ridiculous and strange as possible. Experiment with the craziest ideas and see which one sparks the most excitement for you. You&#8217;ve probably just found the topic of your next novel.</p>

<p>I think that Neil Gaiman is a brilliant author who excels at this game. I love the worlds and characters he creates in his stories by imagining &#8220;what if&#8221; and letting that weird scenario play out. What if a shooting star turned out to be a girl, like in <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Stardust-Novel-Neil-Gaiman/dp/0063070715/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1MI0MI6HFI2DG&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5o-k8jylc3mcEmLxYI3rSIox7MEmlcuS1_rcVz2gKG28O4PTI2uYL2kAVJpPegnb0gx5GKSa4hvqz0l4myzRO8akNVeGNUF7USpROb8s_yVbzZGSUDVNhjrNSLV1AeqlQFhoRm1st_kmjXKGf4tNJkaldFCHTdiyP-_zlaKoXvqM8Xylwgz2c_Rd-mqcbAGXzeNXLyh2cRH7bLo3h8-DW8PVOmxO6sRuWVspP5kUUHs.fGlc3P21AL0nI5o5z_xET5iWd7L7EFg3S8MGdgQetE4&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=stardust+neil+gaiman&amp;qid=1760461687&amp;sprefix=stardust+nei%2Caps%2C161&amp;sr=8-1">Stardust</a></em>? <p>Now it&#8217;s your turn. Let me know in the comments the most fun &#8220;what if&#8221; you came up with. And then start writing the story.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to get book ideas from past experiences</h2>

<p>Your life is way more interesting than you think. We sometimes think we live boring lives, but if we take a closer look at the events of our lives, there&#8217;s plenty of material there to write a few books. </p>

<p>I&#8217;m not saying you&#8217;re going to write a <em><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Sorcerers-Stone-Book/dp/1338878921/ref=sr_1_1?crid=17RSAH828VZB&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.XNlU_MOvNApoUsalNqzrCu6Mo6x_Cq7n_2r4AnabwN05tOF_I9MI-8uAd3zJsqie9ZWxy548TFOPYd0XhWIHU8CgimLu_GRucLP4sI3NWX6dRiCqjg0lGurJRjp2q8jw7TyfGIydFLHNQ2Os80hLVvrT7QramVMqq_nBgdNf1-pbD3vObJoSJSXcLoi9rmqqRikVYt22VKRQGxM2bIGWWhIesMlk-IH2PEJBHf8Y80o.VMrKeQZZ84Zu1dFP3g38H_lrBtdgn_Yz16YFdVTaOuI&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=harry+potter+and+the+sorcerer%27s+stone&amp;qid=1760461865&amp;sprefix=harry+potter+a%2Caps%2C166&amp;sr=8-1">Harry Potter</a></em> book based on your school years. But who knows, maybe you do live in a secret wizarding world and went to a school for wizards. How cool would that be?!</p>

<p>Even the rest of us, muggles as we are, we can also find inspiration from our own experiences. </p>

<p>Think of the happiest day of your life. What led to achieving that happiness? Can you take the lessons you learned along the way, add some fictional elements, and transform your own journey into a hero&#8217;s journey? After all, you are the hero of your epic story. </p>

<p>By analyzing the highs and lows of your life, sprinkling in a little imagination and a few &#8220;what ifs&#8221;, you can transform it into a fascinating story of friendship, survival, romance, or even comedy. It all depends on the perspective from which you chose to view and tell your story. Your life isn’t just a series of events—it’s a goldmine of inspiration waiting for you to share all that beauty with the world!</p>

<div class="wp-block-image">
<figure class="aligncenter size-large is-resized"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="683" height="1024" src="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-from-your-life-683x1024.png" alt="How to get book ideas from your life" class="wp-image-5352" style="width:320px" srcset="https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-from-your-life-683x1024.png 683w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-from-your-life-200x300.png 200w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-from-your-life-768x1152.png 768w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-from-your-life-800x1200.png 800w, https://happywriterhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/how-to-get-book-ideas-from-your-life.png 1000w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 683px) 100vw, 683px" /></figure>
</div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Book inspiration from other stories</h2>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p>&#8220;There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations.&#8221; — Mark Twain</p>
</blockquote>

<p>You have this idea about a boy who discovers he&#8217;s a wizard, and it&#8217;s so exciting! You want to tell his story as he gets acquainted with this new world, the friendships he forms, and all the lessons he learns along the way. But then you do a bit of research and realize the story has already been told, and it&#8217;s one of the best-selling books of all time. So what do you do then? Give up because someone already wrote that story? NO!</p>

<p>The story hasn&#8217;t been told from your perspective, using your views on life and your added imagination. Your upcoming wizard doesn&#8217;t have to play quidditch, take potions classes, or fight Voldemort. Your own wizarding world is bursting with possibilities—countless adventures to embark on, lessons to master, and enemies to fight. Explore all the options, unleash your imagination and craft a fantasy story of your own.</p>

<p>Just because an idea for the book is similar to another book, movie, or TV show, it doesn&#8217;t mean the story will be the same. Of course, you shouldn&#8217;t copy the idea and write something that is almost identical to the original one. That&#8217;s plagiarism, and it&#8217;s a big NO-NO! Instead, craft a story that’s uniquely yours—infuse it with your own twist, create a world brimming with wonder, and bring characters to life that you’re excited to share with your readers.</p>

<p>Be authentic. Be yourself and bring your own ideas, quirks, and worldviews into your story. Make it a story worth telling!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Book ideas based on your dreams</h2>

<p>I don&#8217;t know about you, but sometimes I have hilarious dreams at night. In fact, they&#8217;re so funny that I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, laughing out loud because of the ridiculous dreams I just had! So if I ever want to add comedy to my books, I have plenty of ideas to use.</p>

<p>It doesn&#8217;t have to be funny dreams, though. It can be any dream you&#8217;ve had that you stuck with you. In dreams, we find ourselves visiting new worlds, doing things we normally wouldn&#8217;t have the courage to do in real life, and interacting with fascinating people (and even animals). </p>

<p>Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night thinking, &#8220;This dream would be a good idea for my next novel.&#8221; But by the time you wake up in the morning, you just can&#8217;t remember what it was? Keeping a notepad and a pen on your nightstand might solve this issue. When you have a dream that&#8217;s worth remembering, take your notepad and quickly write down the main idea. You&#8217;ll be so happy when you wake up in the morning and find there, right next to you, the idea for your next brilliant novel.</p>
